Study education at Griffith
A rewarding teaching career starts here.
Primary school teacher and education graduate Natalie Harris inspired her Year 4 students to get involved in science and technology, setting up the Tech Girls Club at Pacific Pines State Primary School. ‘I volunteered to be one of the school’s first iPad teachers and it showed me the possibilities of integrating technology into teaching.’ Natalie encouraged five of her students to enter the Tech Girls Movement Search for the Next Tech Girl Superhero (SNTGS) competition, which they subsequently won at a State and national level. In 2018, Natalie won the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT), Excellence in Teaching Award. ‘Winning the QCT award is so special and rewarding. You don’t teach for awards but because you love what you do, and to be recognised by your peers is humbling.’
Develop in-demand expertise
Our graduates are sought after in the independent, Catholic and state education systems in Queensland, as well as internationally. Our degrees prepare you for work by linking theory with practice, and give you the opportunity to develop your teaching skills in interesting and diverse locations.
The Australian Government has identified education and training as one of Australia’s top five growing industries (Department of Jobs and Small Business, 2018) and our degrees are specifically designed to respond to industry demand and changes.
Study among the best
Griffith has over 50 years of teacher preparation experience. Our lecturers are recognised as among the best in Australia, including Dr Kevin Larkin who was named the 2018 Australian University Teacher of the Year by Universities Australia.
Enjoy flexibility and choice
We offer a unique and extensive suite of qualifications and specialisations that will lead you to exciting new opportunities. You can complete a Bachelor of Education in just three and a half years, giving you a head start in the teaching profession. Griffith is the only Queensland university that allows you to choose you major (primary or secondary) from second year.
Benefit from our powerful partnerships
We maintain strong relationships with schools and industry partners, including two school-based teacher education centres of excellence. You'll have the opportunity to engage with experts who are moving education forward in priority areas, including teaching literacy and developing teachers as researchers.
Career opportunities
Our education degrees span a variety of teaching careers. Depending on your degree and specialisation, you may work as a primary, secondary or special needs school teacher, a physical education teacher or sports coach.
