Flexible study that’s on your terms with online, on-campus or hybrid study modes.
Study what you need, not what you already know
Most masters degrees have foundation, core and flexible modules that take about two years of full-time study to complete.
Our one-year masters degrees give you credit for your prior learning and work experience, so there’s less repetition of what you already know, saving you time and money as you build up your career.
Foundation
40 credit points
(six months full time)
You only need to complete this module if your formal learning is in a different discipline or you have limited professional experience.
Core
80 credit points
(12 months full time)
A critical module of study, deepening your knowledge of the discipline on which your degree is focused.
Flexible
40 credit points
(six months full time)
This module gives you depth and breadth in the discipline, as well as a research pathway.
If you have the right mix of prior learning and work experience, you could potentially have your foundation and flexible modules credited to you before you even start your masters, so you'll only have one year of study to complete!
Some masters degrees are only one year in duration, e.g., the Master of Autism Studies, Master of Clinical Dentistry and Master of Clinical Psychology Practice.
What to expect when you apply
You will be asked for some basic information, including your work history and details of your prior study. There’s no need to apply separately for credit; your experience and education are considered as part of your application.
For most applications, we might only need a copy of your resume or LinkedIn profile. Your formal qualifications will then be independently vetted by us. Further information may be needed for some accredited degrees or overseas qualifications that you hold.

I knew any postgraduate study over two years was unsustainable for me and would lead to burnout while I was still working full time in the IT sector. Griffith's one-year masters had the right balance of flexibility that I needed.
It was effectively around eight months of study and it meant I could be focused on my masters and still engaged at work. With my prior learning and experience recognised as credit, the compulsory study narrowed to what I didn't know yet and it kept me highly motivated.
My masters has helped keep my skills and knowledge relevant in a highly competitive job market. Futureproofing my job is extremely important to me.
