Shaping the next generation of creative storytellers
Our programs develop specialist creative and technical skills, with a focus on cross‑disciplinary collaboration to create original screen experiences for contemporary audiences. Located in Brisbane’s cultural precinct, students collaborate with Queensland College of Art and Design and Queensland Conservatorium peers, strengthening industry connections and real‑world creative practice.

Postgraduate and research study options
Whether you're beginning your research journey or wanting to partner with our staff and researchers - Griffith Film School has a strong research agenda.
Our degrees, including our primary postgraduate offering Master of Cinematic Arts, provide a unique opportunity to follow a specific interest in a particular research area. Engage in research and professional development towards innovation and career acceleration in your chosen field, including studio projects supervised by discipline leads and where applicable, industry partners. Be introduced to research methods that will deepen your understanding of your own practice, and inform your strategies and approaches as a professional practitioner.
Our staff and researchers also collaborate with industry and interdisciplinary partners through the Creative Arts Research Institute (CARI) and research labs such as the Experimental Games Lab.
The PhD is Griffith’s premier research training degree. It is awarded for a thesis (or a series of published papers), drafted under supervision, which makes an original, significant, and extensive contribution to knowledge and understanding in your field of study.
This degree can offer you formal recognition for your work if you are an established researcher and do not already hold a doctoral level qualification.
Specialist Masters by Research
These specialist degrees combine coursework with professional and/or artistic practice.
Graduate Certificates
Graduate Certificates provide graduates from all professional disciplines with a solid understanding of their choses visual arts field. They provide a comprehensive foundation for future postgraduate study. At the completion of a Graduate Certificate, artists, photographers, designers and filmmakers emerge with a richness of experience and cross-disciplinary skills.
Research study abroad
International students currently enrolled in a research degree in a university overseas may undertake a research project at Griffith University for one to three semesters, under the research study abroad program.
You’ll be able to study in any research area, provided supervision and resources are available. Credit gained at Griffith is transferred toward the degree at your home institution, with that institution’s agreement.
HDR scholarships
We offer a range of generous scholarship programs that can cover tuition fees, living allowances paid as stipends, relocation and publication assistance.
