FRDC November 2018 Competitive Round Call for Expressions of Interest

The FRDC invests through a flexible approach. Part of this approach allows the Research Advisory Committees (RACs), Industry Partnership Agreements (IPAs) and Subprograms to call for applications based on their priorities up to three times per year in November, April and August. If the RACs, IPAs and Subprograms do not have any priorities they wish to address, a call for applications may NOT occur.

The FRDC will evaluate applications based on two levels of assessment:

  • Greater than $175,000 (incl GST) assessed by the FRDC Board. This will occur at the April, August and November board meetings.
  • Less than $175,000 (incl GST) and considered low risk, assessed by the FRDC. An application can be submitted at any time where an RAC, subprogram or IPA wishes to address an issue. These projects must have a budget of less than $175,000 and be considered a low risk by the FRDC.

Australian Flora Foundation

Applications for grants to support original scientific projects on the biology and cultivation of Australian plants are invited from research workers in Australia. The Australian Flora Foundation will consider all relevant applications, with special interest in the following categories:

  1. conservation of Australian plant diversity, particularly where there are threats from climate change
  2. the cultivation of Australian plants, to ensure their survival and reduce the threat to native ecosystems
  3. rare and endangered plants.

All applications on rare and endangered plants should indicate how the research relates to the known management plan for the species. The Foundation does not fund projects that are for conference travel, publications, research on orchids, or taxonomy. It gives a low priority to flora surveys per se or studies of marine plants.

Projects must be scientifically sound and aim to provide outcomes within the period of the grant.  Applicants must be suitably qualified or identify a qualified project supervisor. Just one principal investigator.

Short-listed applicants advised: early May

Full applications due: 14 June

Board meets: August

Successful applicant advised: September
