The Giant and the Albatross (Animatic)
Long ago, in the middle of the ocean, under the cliffs of a little island, there lived an old giant named Torsbeard. Torsbeard loved to spend every morning roaming the blue waters, catching fish for his friends the sea birds. But time passed, and things changed. Now he sits dormant, his body cliff-bound and slowly eroding. The birds have not visited. The fish are gone. The island is quiet. And then one day, Torsbeard finds a dying albatross chick on his arm, and he shelters it. While recovering, this little chick discovers that Torsbeard is filled with rock pools, all teaming with fish! The young albatross recovers fully, and stays on with Torsbeard, the two becoming good friends.

MAK Design and Application
A collection of practical techniques and analysis of the kit design workflow. These findings were demonstrated in a Modular Asset Kit (MAK) that was applied in 2 different contexts: an action shooter and a horror environment. The end result gave insight into a major part of MAK creation and application that is underserved in the formal research. The ability to generate situational knowledge from the given rules of thumb heavily impacts whether the outcome is successful or not. This stems from the generality of kit design’s knowledge base which limits the specificity for any particular use case. For example, making your kit diverse is a given heuristic but what does that mean when accounting for genre? Or gameplay? Or aesthetics? This project covers how you might answer these questions and how to generate that context-specific knowledge.
