Responding to Asia’s clean energy imperative

Asia accounts for more than half of global coal-related emissions, with energy demand projected to rise by 3 percent annually under current policy trajectories. Achieving net-zero targets by mid-century requires a dramatic shift in how Asian economies finance, source, and implement clean energy solutions.

Chinese engagement, through its technological leadership, green finance flows, and international initiatives, plays an important role in shaping this transition.

In response, the Green Energy Network – Asia (GEN-A) was launched by and for regional decision-makers to enhance the capacity of Asian energy leaders in policy, finance, and business. As a neutral and trusted platform, GEN-A facilitates a robust exchange of experiences, bridges knowledge gaps, and promotes informed policymaking through strategic collaborations with Chinese partners and other international players.

Powering ahead – How GEN-A’s members are shaping Asia’s green energy future

Since its establishment in 2025, GEN-A has built a strong foundation for accelerating Asia’s green energy transition by building knowledge, partnerships, and practical tools to engage more effectively with Chinese and regional stakeholders.

In close cooperation with its growing and active membership of over 40 senior energy leaders across Asia, GEN-A implements dedicated research and capacity building initiatives to assist Asian leaders in:

  • Identifying best practices and lessons learned for engaging China in green energy initiatives. · Understanding China’s current priorities, policies, and processes for international green energy cooperation.
  • Developing strategies to mitigate risks associated with green energy partnerships with China through international collaboration.
  • Efficiently utilising Chinese funds to accelerate the energy transition while meeting environmental, social, and governance ( ESG) targets.

GEN-A works collaboratively to address member needs with leading regional research institutions and think tanks supporting research and engagement. The network is led by the Griffith Asia Institute.

GEN-A annual meetings

GEN-A ’s annual network conference brings together several of the region’s leading energy experts, including policymakers, industry professionals, and clean energy pioneers, to share knowledge, build partnerships, and drive innovative policy and financing solutions.

This event is designed as an interactive forum, combining case study discussions, capacity-building sessions, and field visits with a strong focus on exploring practical solutions through candid dialogue and network building.
