Understand Pacific thinking and perspectives
The Pacific Hub is dedicated to exploring critical issues facing Pacific Nations. Our researchers focus on governance and diplomacy, livelihoods and culture, climate resilience and environment, and digital transformation and economic inclusion.
Our commitment is to promote and amplify Pacific voices and perspectives, working collaboratively with the Pacific rather than imposing solutions. We provide platforms to share Pacific research across the University and with the wider community in Australia and beyond.
At the Pacific Hub, we support the design and delivery of learning, teaching, research, and engagement initiatives to build Pacific literacy across the University community and Australian society.

Why the Pacific matters
The Pacific region is central to global conversations on climate change, geopolitical stability, ocean governance and sustainable development. Pacific Island countries face some of the world’s most acute climate risks, rapid digital transformation, evolving security dynamics and shifting development pathways.
At the same time, Pacific states are exercising strong regional leadership — shaping international climate negotiations, advancing innovative adaptation strategies and redefining regional diplomacy.
Griffith’s Pacific engagement recognises both vulnerability and agency. Our research supports locally informed solutions, strengthens institutions and contributes evidence to regional and global policy debates.
Regional priorities alignment
Griffith’s Pacific research aligns with regional development frameworks and nationally identified priorities. Our work supports:
- Climate resilience and adaptation planning
- Sustainable ocean and land management
- Institutional strengthening and governance reform
- Digital transformation and financial inclusion
- Health and biosecurity cooperation
- Youth engagement and leadership
By aligning research with Pacific-led strategies, we ensure our partnerships contribute to long-term resilience, sovereignty and sustainable development outcomes.
