Giving back

We nurture connections with emerging First Peoples alumni in mentoring, philanthropy and industry engagement. This allows graduates to give back and students to have the opportunity to be mentored by successful health alumni.

Our alumni

Aunty Pamela Mam

Aunty Pamela Mam was awarded an Honarary Doctorate in 2018. She was a positive influence on the way healthcare is delivered across the community. This extended to education and still includes the Aunty Pamela Mam Indigenous Nursing Scholarship.

Established in 2015 with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service Brisbane, the scholarship supports nursing and midwifery students of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.

Acknowledgment of Country

The First Peoples Health Unit acknowledges the wisdom inherent in the Traditional Custodians of Australia as the oldest surviving culture in the world. We recognise their custodianship of the land on which all Griffith University campuses are located. We recognise the connection to their land, air, sea and community. We would like to pay our respect to their Elders and Leaders that are past, present, and future. We extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
