To meet this requirement you must provide the following:

• Evidence of receiving an age-appropriate course of Hepatitis B vaccinations (an accelerated course is not accepted), AND
• A positive serology (blood test) showing HBsAb levels equal to or greater than 10 mlU/ml, completed at least 4 weeks from the last dose of a Hepatitis B vaccine.

If a new course of Hepatitis B vaccinations are required it can take up to five months to complete the schedule.

Students must ensure full completion of the Hepatitis B schedule by the end of their second trimester of study, including Hep B Dose 3 and Hep B Serology.

Varicella (chickenpox) is a highly contagious infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus. Students must provide evidence of vaccination for Varicella, or a positive serology.

Varicella vaccination schedule:

• 1 dose if received before the age of 14, or
• 2 doses if received from the age of 14, given at least one month apart.

Students can provide either of the following to meet the requirements:

• Evidence of receiving 2 doses of the MMR vaccine, given at least one month apart, or
• Positive serology for Measles, Mumps and Rubella

For low positive, equivocal or negative serology result please seek further advice from your medical practitioner.

If you were born before 1966 you have assumed immunity and can provide a copy of your drivers licence, birth certificate or passport.

You’ll need to provide evidence of having taken the Adacel or Boostrix vaccine in the past 10 years (a serology test is not acceptable).

The influenza vaccine is reformulated each year based on the projected influenza strains for that year. The new influenza vaccine is released from mid to late March, and is available through your GP, Pharmacy and Griffith University's Health and Medical Services. Please note, stock of the vaccine may be limited later in the year so it is important to get your vaccination once it's available.

Please refer to your Checks page in Sonia to confirm whether the Influenza vaccine is an annual requirement for your program. If required please submit evidence of receiving the current Influenza vaccine.

The influenza vaccine must be administered in Australia, as the formulation differs from country to country.

Our hospital and health partners set their own vaccination requirements or follow state guidelines, which may change over time. Currently in aged care facilities it is recommended to be COVID-vaccinated, and each facility can choose to request COVID-19 vaccinations (see Australian Government Department - COVID Vaccination information for Aged Care Providers).

Please refer to your Checks page in Sonia for specific requirements. If COVID-19 vaccinations are a requirement for the organisation you are placed with, acceptable evidence includes either a COVID-19 Digital Certificate or Medicare immunisation History Statement.

International students

To get your immunisation history statement, link the Individual Healthcare Identifiers (IHI) service to your myGov account. If you don't have an Individual Healthcare Identifier (IHI), find out how to get one.

Once you've linked the IHI service:

• Sign in to your myGov account.
• Select the COVID-19 vaccination status quick link.
• Select ‘view immunisation history’.

The Queensland Health Tuberculosis Risk Assessment Form for Students helps identify if you are an at-risk student for Tuberculosis. Generally, at-risk students were born in a high-risk country or have spent three or more months in high-risk countries during the past five years.

List of high-risk countries

If you did not identify as at-risk:

Submit your completed QHealth Tuberculosis Risk Assessment Form for Students to the 'TB Self Assessment Form' check in Sonia. Please ensure you answer all questions and the form is signed. We cannot accept a typed signature.

If you identified as at-risk:

Submit your completed QHealth Tuberculosis Risk Assessment Form for Students to the 'TB Self Assessment Form' check in Sonia, and complete either of the following TB screening by the end of your first year of study:

• a QuantiFERON-TB Gold/Interferon Gamma Release Immunoassay (IGRA) blood test at a private pathologist (with an estimated cost of $70)
• a free QuantiFERON-TB Gold blood test at Metro South Clinical TB Service at the Princess Alexandra Hospital

If your placement is in a Queensland Health facility you must complete the below iLearn training modules and Queensland Health forms.

To begin, read the information on Queensland Health’s Preparing for your clinical placement page, which lists the certifications and documents needed to go on placement with Queensland Health.

iLearn online training

On 13 April 2025 Queensland Health introduced a new suite of Core Mandatory Training modules. Please complete the online training on Queensland Health's iLearn website.

You will need to register for an iLearn account as a ‘student’ and include your Placements Officer or Course Convenor as your ‘supervisor contact’. If you are unsure about these details contact the Placements Officer in your school.

Once logged in to the Queensland Health iLearn website search for the course 'Core Mandatory Training'. Click on this course, then click 'Enrol in This Program'. The following modules must be completed:

• Working Ethically - completed annually
• Keeping  You Safe - completed once
• First-response Evacuation Instructions (FREI) - completed annually

The following modules must also be completed for placements over 3 months:

• Welcome to Queensland Health - completed once
• Keeping Everyone Safe - completed every 3 years
• Keeping our Organisation Safe - completed annually 
• First Nations - Cultural Safety and  Equity in Healthcare - completed once

You will receive a PDF certificate on completion of each module. Submit a copy of the certificate to the relevant Check in Sonia. Digital badges will not be accepted.

You may be required to complete additional site specific training such as General Evacuation Instructions (GEI) and Infection Prevention and Control.  These modules may not be available on iLearn and may be completed locally on commencement of your placement. If required further direction will be provided by your School and/or the placement facility.

Queensland Health forms

To attend placement with Queensland Health you must complete and sign two key Queensland Health forms:

• the Queensland Health Student Orientation Checklist must be completed after you have met all Fit for Professional Practice requirements (including vaccinations and health tests, Blue Card, Police Checks and Queensland Health iLearn training). Please submit your completed and signed Student Orientation Checklist to the checks tab in Sonia. Please refer to the Queensland Health Student Orientation Checklist Completion Guide.

• the Queensland Health Student Deed Poll must be completed prior to each placement and provided to the Queensland Health facility. The Deed Poll is a legal agreement between you and Queensland Health. Please ensure you include Griffith University's ABN: 78 106 094 461 and the name of the HHS you have been allocated to eg Metro South HHS. Bring your signed Student Deed Poll with you on your first day of placement.
