You'll be conferred in the first available round after you are confirmed as eligible to graduate

We hold non-ceremony and ceremony rounds each year. This means you could graduate (have your degree awarded) before or during a graduation ceremony round.

If you are conferred in absentia (either during a non-ceremony round or if you are unable to attend during a ceremony round), you will have your hard copy testamur mailed to you and access to your digital graduation documents will be available within one business day of your conferral.

If you are conferred during a ceremony round and attend your ceremony, you will receive your hard copy testamur at the event and access to your digital graduation documents will be available within one business day of your conferral.

Steps and deadlines to be eligible

Please be aware, graduation ceremony dates can only be confirmed once the venues have guaranteed their availability. While we appreciate the importance of knowing confirmed dates with as much notice as possible, the confirmation of dates is outside the University's control and we have, in the past, had instances when the venues have changed our dates with less than two months' notice from the original, tentative dates. For this reason, please follow the Caution (see below) regarding making early arrangements.

# Following a review of non-ceremony conferral rounds, the May round has been discontinued, effective from 2025. This change is part of an effort to optimise the conferral process, while ensuring students continue to receive timely and relevant documentation. Students who meet graduation eligibility requirements after the March conferral will:

  1. be able to request an Official Letter to confirm completion of program, which can be used for employment and visa purposes
  2. be conferred in July (ceremony round)

Caution:

Making travel arrangements and/or purchasing guest tickets for a coming ceremony is done at your own risk if you do so before:

a) the ceremony is confirmed

b) you have a myGraduation status of 'Approved' in myGriffith^^ and

c) you have registered to attend your ceremony.

Those who do not have a myGraduation status of 'Approved' by the specified deadline (or have not recently graduated) cannot participate in a ceremony, regardless of any travel arrangements or ticket purchases for themselves or guests.

^^ Graduates conferred in a non-ceremony round, including Higher Degree Research graduates, do not need to check for an Approved status because your Award has already been conferred.
