Rank is a numerical value used to place you in order of merit for admission to a degree. Rank is based on the Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) scale, from 99.95 (highest) down to 0. It is typically determined through your previous studies. So, for example, if you're a high school student, you may receive an ATAR score, or if you've studied a TAFE qualification, you'll receive a rank.

You can find a guideline of what rank might be required for a degree you're interested in by looking at the entry requirements on our Degree Finder (this number is based on the lowest rank accepted in the previous year).

For an undergraduate degree, school leavers and mature students apply through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC). However, if you've completed a diploma or advanced diploma through TAFE, you can apply directly to Griffith. You will need to meet the rank and also the subject prerequisites to be eligible for an offer.

It depends on your chosen degree and whether you've provided all the required documents and information to assess your application. If you're a mature student applying for a high-demand degree, you usually need to wait for the major offer round for the intake you've applied for. For other degrees, you may receive an offer within a few weeks of applying if you don't need to provide additional documents to QTAC.

One of the best moments in your university career is when you receive your Letter of Offer. It’s a hugely exciting time, but of course, there are some steps you need to take next to ensure that your offer is confirmed and completed.

Step 1—Receive an offer

Your offer comes from QTAC or UAC, so keep an eye out for that. Once you have your offer, QTAC gives you only seven days to respond, so make sure you get back to them quickly.

When responding, you’ll have four options to choose from, which are:

• accept the offer
• reject the offer
• defer your offer
• conditionally accept.

Step 2—Respond to the offer

If you choose to accept an offer to study at Griffith, you’ll receive a welcome email from us with information about the steps you need to take to enrol. We’re more than happy to help you with this process, so feel free to contact us if you need support.

You'll need to:

• check and confirm your personal details
• do the paperwork to receive HECS support, which includes providing your tax file number

Step 3—Select your courses (subjects) and classes

This is when you start getting your degree into the shape you want it, so spend some time considering what’s best for you.

Step 4—Plan for O Week

Once this admin is sorted, it’s important to start thinking about Orientation week. Orientation is especially important because it gives you a head start in preparing for your study and getting ready for the uni experience. Find out as much as you can about O-week and get involved–it will make your transition to university much smoother.

Yes, you apply through QTAC. While the subjects you studied in other states differ from those in Queensland, ATARs are treated the same regardless of which state or territory awarded them. So, an ATAR of 99.95 from Queensland is treated the same as an ATAR of 99.95 from Victoria, NSW, ACT, etc.

You will need an up-to-date curriculum vitae that outlines your position, roles and responsibilities. For this, we recommend concentrating on the past five years in detail and summarising any prior relevant experience. Self-employment can form part of your experience. You will also need to supply a Statement of Service from your employer or a letter from your accountant substantiating your self-employment if you are self-employed.

Most Griffith degrees require you to meet an English subject prerequisite for admission. If you do not meet this requirement we offer an English Bridging course as well as additional options via tertiary study.

Griffith University teaches in English, so applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. Most applicants will satisfy this requirement by completing secondary or tertiary study in a selected range of English-speaking countries or achieving minimum scores in approved English language proficiency tests.

It may be possible to satisfy English language proficiency requirements for some degrees via full-time work experience in an English-speaking professional work environment. However, some professionally accredited degrees have specific or differing requirements that applicants must demonstrate to satisfy English language requirements.

If you don't have the selection rank needed to secure a place in your preferred degree, you could start studies in an alternative degree to improve your rank. Once you achieve the required selection rank, you can reapply or transfer to your preferred degree.

Once you accept your offer, it’s time to start thinking about your enrolment.

Step 1—Prepare by checking Griffith’s academic calendar and key dates on our website

Step 2—Enrol

Once you’ve completed your planning, it’s time to enrol. Enrolling requires you to: plan your courses (subjects) select your courses submit your enrolment

Step 3—Manage your enrolment

Through myGriffith, you’ll also be able to manage your enrolment, including: adding courses from your course list planning class times selecting preferred classes.

Yes, the Study Planner is available for anyone to use. We designed the tool to help you prioritise and visualise all activities in your life, including time for study.

You select and enrol into your classes before each trimester, not for the entire year. Although, it is good to have a study plan for the year so you know what subjects you will study in which trimester.

As a general guide, a 12-week subject requires 10-12 hours per week per subject; a six-week subject requires 20-25 hours per week per subject, and a free open subject requires two weeks and three hours per week per subject. Time used for subjects includes all forms of teaching contact (face-to-face and online), assessment tasks and private study.

Course profiles are published close to the start of each trimester. Here you will find the course outline, aims and outcomes, learning activities, and assessments. You can find each course under degree requirements from the degree webpage—click on the course code and then open the course profile.

Australian citizens are domestic students regardless of where you intend to study. If your program is offered online then you can usually study from anywhere. However, if a program is Commonwealth Supported or if you intend to use a HELP loan there may be a requirement for you to complete some study in Australia.

Yes, if your program allows part-time study, when you're enrolling each trimester you will be able to select what subjects and how many you take. You also have until the census date of each trimester (week 4) to drop and/or add subjects.

If the courses in your program are offered online, then there is no requirement for you to come to campus. You can decide how you manage your study load, you can increase or decrease your study to balance your work, life and study commitments. Select degrees are offered 100% online, on demand, meaning you can set your own pace for study.

Yes, lectures are usually recorded and can be watched in your own time, meaning you don't have to attend in person and can catch up at a time convenient to you.

If you have completed a bachelor degree with the required GPA, you could be eligible for admission to a range of masters degrees.

Or, in some cases, if you have several years of work (3-5 years) experience in a relevant industry, you can do a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma as a pathway to a masters degree.

A graduate certificate could be completed in six months, and a graduate diploma could be completed in one year. These pathways are a much faster way to complete your study than doing a three-year undergraduate degree.

Griffith also considers prior learning a pathway to study, and you may receive credit for this in combination with your experience, which can reduce the time it will take to complete your degree.

Credit can be received for:

• any postgraduate-level study you have completed at a university or a credentialled program
• any non-formal learning such as workplace training, volunteer training or other relevant experience.

• Go to your chosen degree in Degree Finder and from the Apply tab, click on Credit and Recognition of Prior Learning – you can go straight to the credit transfer page to apply or view our Credit Precedent Database, which lists any credit previously assessed for your chosen degree.
• If your study is not on the list, please submit a credit application. In addition, there are self-help resources available on the credit transfer webpage.

The entry requirements for postgraduate study varies depending on the degree you are applying for, for example:

• some may require you to have completed an undergraduate degree, while others may not
• some require a certain grade point average
• a level of industry experience may also be required.

Step 1—Receive an offer

Once your application has been assessed, you’ll receive an email from Griffith with the outcome. Be sure to check your junk folder if you haven't received your email.

Step 2—Accept the offer

If you’ve applied for a degree via QTAC, you will receive an offer that you will need to accept. If you applied directly to Griffith, you do not need to formally accept an offer. Once you’re accepted into a degree, you’ll receive a Welcome to Griffith email that includes your Griffith Student ID and access to our student portal, myGriffith.

Step 3—Log in

Once you are logged into myGriffith, you will be able to manage your enrolment, complete your Orientation, and see all other information relevant to your degree.

When you click on Manage Enrolment for the first time, you will need to complete your Pre-enrolment Questionnaire.

The purpose of the questionnaire is to collect your personal details, including your Unique Student Identifier (USI). If you're eligible, you'll have the opportunity to apply for a government loan/s to defer your tuition fees and charges.

Your overseas qualification forms part of the formal application process and will be assessed when you apply for a postgraduate degree.

A "Statement of Service" provides documentary evidence of your prior work experience. For further details visit employment experience on the QTAC website.

In most instances, a completed graduate certificate will provide 40 credit points (four subjects), providing the courses in the graduate certificate also form part of the master's degree structure. However, if you complete a graduate certificate that does not form part of a masters, you may still be eligible for credit.

Postgraduate students must apply directly to Griffith via our application portal (except for Master of Primary Teaching and Master of Secondary Teaching, which is through QTAC).

Once you've received an offer from Griffith, you can then apply for credit from your previous university.
