Enhancing the ecosystem for entrepreneurship and innovation in the Pacific
Small-scale enterprises are a critical component of the economy and provide livelihoods for many of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people. Leaders of the Pacific region have identified the development of small-scale enterprises as a key priority for achieving inclusive economic growth. In response, the Griffith Asia Institute and its partners are working to assess the current support ecosystem for Pacific entrepreneurs and identify opportunities for technology solutions to support the growth and development of micro-enterprises.
COVID-19 Gendered risks, impact and response in the Indo-Pacific
This project aims to develop an evidence-based approach that identifies the specific risk of economic hardship and food insecurity that women have experienced during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic in Myanmar, the Philippines and Papua New Guinea. Stage 2 of the ACIAR COVID-19 assessment identified that gender inequity and its consequences were significant vulnerabilities across the Indo-Pacific region, and while some progress has been made in gender equality, significant inequality for women and girls remains persistent.
Transformative tourism model for the Pacific Islands
In Pacific Island contexts, this Australian Research Council funded project aims to develop with our in-country partners, and disseminate through our regional partners, alternative models of tourism that balance economic, social and environmental objectives. In so doing, this project expects to co-create new knowledge in tourism and sustainable development by drawing on different types of Indigenous knowledge shared amongst project partners, while advancing methods of research applicable to diverse stakeholders and settings.
