Support for commencing undergraduate students
The purpose of the Professor Rod Welford Sustainable Futures Scholarship is to support access to university education for students affected by different types of educational disadvantage. It is open to those undertaking undergraduate studies in the School of Environment & Science or Griffith Business School with a strong commitment and aptitude for pursuing a career actively advocating, advancing or promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (or equivalent) and the principles and practices for ecological sustainability, biodiversity conservation, resource efficiency or circular economy.

Scholarship details
To be eligible, you must:
- be an Australian citizen
- be a resident of Queensland
- be a commencing student enrolled full-time in one of the following degrees:
- Bachelor of Environmental Science
- Bachelor of Environmental Science/Bachelor of Business or
- be a continuing student enrolled full time in one of the following degrees:
- Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Economics
- Bachelor of Business with a major in Management
- be a student who has completed secondary school (within last 2 years) and not previously completed an undergraduate degree at any institution
- demonstrate sound academic potential based on your prior academic record or experience
- not be in receipt of any other scholarship including the Centrelink Relocation Grant or a Commonwealth Scholarship
- demonstrate educational disadvantage based on a comprehensive assessment by the University

Application assessment
Information provided by individuals in their Griffith online scholarship application is assessed and ranked in accordance with the following Educational Disadvantage Assessment categories:
- Financial Hardship
- Home Environment and Responsibilities
- English Language Difficulty
- Personal Illness and Disability
- Educational Disruption
- Relocation within Australia
Value
The scholarship is valued at $10,000, paid in instalments. Instalments of $1,250 per 10 Credit Points are payable for each enrolled trimester that conditions are met, up to the maximum value of the scholarship.
Payment
The scholarship payments are payable into the recipients nominated bank account, payments are made up to three weeks after the census date, subject to the recipient maintaining ongoing terms and conditions.
To remain eligible for the scholarship, recipients will be required to:
- remain enrolled full time at Griffith University in the undergraduate degree course for which the scholarship was awarded
- maintain a minimum GPA of 4.5
This scholarship cannot be deferred and recipients cannot take a leave of absence. Recipients not enrolled will have the scholarship terminated.
The above conditions are verified each trimester at census date. If a scholarship recipient fails to successfully meet these conditions, scholarship payments may be withheld or the scholarship may be terminated.
