Prize for best strings and piano sonata performance

This annual prize is awarded to a Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University student duo judged to have performed, in competition, the best sonata for stringed instrument and piano.

Competition details

To be eligible, Queensland Conservatorium student duos must comprise either:

  • violin and piano
  • viola and piano
  • cello and piano
  • double bass and piano.

Submit a completed application form, following the details on the form:

Selection process

  • All competitors are required to play a sonata of their own choice.
  • Judges are to be appointed by the director.
  • No judge may be the teacher of a student who is competing.

Cash prize of approximately $500 to be split equally between winning musicians.

Preliminary Round

Date: Monday 18 September 2023

Time: 6.30pm

Venue: Ian Hanger Recital Hall.

Final Round

Date: Tuesday 19 September 2023

Time: 6.30pm
