The Taffy Gould Prize in Human Origins awards a $1,000 gift to an ARCHE individual researcher or research team for the best publication in the field of human origins each calendar year. This prize aims to foster innovative research which focuses on the evolution of hominin biology, cognition, behaviour, and/or technologies.

Submissions may include Honours, Masters, or PhD theses, presented academic posters, or publications in the form of journal articles, book chapters, or books. Selection will be made by a panel made up of ARCHE staff as well as researchers outside of the Centre (both from within Griffith University and outside).

To be considered for the prize, the applicant/s must be an ARCHE-aligned student or staff member and preference will be given to Higher Degree Research (HDR) candidates and Early Career Researchers (ECRs).

To apply, send a 1-2 page brief which outlines:

  • The designated publication, thesis, or poster;
  • Your contribution to that publication (your role in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data, writing and illustration of the publication);
  • The importance of the work for understanding human origins; and
  • A copy or link to your designated publication.

The closing date for all submissions is December 1st. The prize will be awarded in January the following year. Submissions should be sent to Ms Jo Papas, ARCHE Centre Coordinator, email: j.papas@griffith.edu.au.
