The Turn to Teaching Internship Program supports degree qualified professionals to transition to a teaching career and secure permanent employment in Queensland state schools. Providing financial support while you complete your post-graduate studies, this program is open to students enrolling in the Master of Primary Teaching or Master of Secondary Teaching.
Benefits
- $20 000 (taxed) in your first year of study
- Full-time paid internship in a Queensland state school, with a reduced teaching load (50%), while completing your second year of postgraduate study part-time
- Support of a supervising and mentor teacher, and access to other support during your internship
- A permanent teaching position in a Queensland state school on completion of the program.
Eligibility
- This opportunity is available to those with an undergraduate degree in a field other than education
- Be willing to undertake an internship at any state school in Queensland
- Demonstrate commitment to teach in a Queensland state school in a priority subject area. These priority areas are listed on the Teach Queensland website
- Be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia.
If you hold a Bachelor's degree in a non-priority subject area, you are still eligible to apply. However, preference will be given to applicants with qualifications in priority subject areas who are also willing to work in rural or remote locations.

Master of Primary Teaching
This postgraduate pre-service teacher education program is offered in intensive mode to enable completion in one and a half years or over two years full-time. The program provides professional preparation for teaching in primary school (Prep to Year 6) settings. The program covers the theory and practice of teaching concentrating on the characteristics of learners; the social and educational contexts of education; curriculum studies and professional experience in relevant settings.
Master of Secondary Teaching
If you are a graduate from a non-education background, perhaps seeking a career change, and wish to teach in secondary school settings, this new degree will provide you with the necessary skills and knowledge you need to register with the QCT. You can choose to accelerate your studies over 1.5 years or study full-time over two years. If you choose the accelerated option you will be able to apply for registration six months earlier than graduates from other universities.
