Fighting the world’s most persistent health threats

Infectious diseases remain one of the world’s most pressing health challenges, claiming more than 17 million lives each year. From antibiotic‑resistant bacteria to emerging viruses, the need for new diagnostics, treatments and vaccines has never been more urgent.

Our researchers are tackling these threats head‑on, engaging in worldwide partnerships that span multiple disciplines, connecting with industry, other leading research institutes, philanthropic organisations and governments from across the globe. Together, we are developing innovative solutions to prevent, detect and treat infectious diseases that impact millions worldwide, particularly in tropical and vulnerable communities.

From discovery to impact

From early-stage exploration to practical solutions, our infectious diseases research transforms bold ideas into tangible health outcomes – delivering smarter, faster and more compassionate care to communities worldwide.

We have a track record of translational research and development that has already led to:

  • clinical-stage vaccine candidates for Streptococcal A and Malaria
  • repurposed drugs to treat malaria, gonorrhoea and arthritis caused by viruses
  • a clinical-stage drug to treat sepsis and preclinical drug leads to treat human parainfluenza viruses.
