The Indigenous Research Unit (IRU) is committed to creating an environment that fosters the sharing of Indigenous research and knowledges, organisational engagement with and between Indigenous and non-Indigenous researchers, develops the research capacity of academics and research candidates, and educational advancement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
Our goals

Supporting Indigenous Research
The Indigenous Research Unit (IRU), Graduate Research School, and GUMURRII Student Support Unit work in partnership to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Higher Degree Research students achieve a positive environment, support and guidance throughout their research journey at Griffith.
The IRU has a strong focus on developing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) Higher Degree Research student cohort, and develops specialised ATSI research capacity workshops and activities.
GUMURRII provides cultural, personal, academic, and mentoring support to assist ATSI HDR students.
