Improve your English for university study

If you’re ready for university but don’t have the senior English prerequisite, successful completion of Griffith’s Bridging English course meets Griffith’s English subject prerequisite requirements for a range of Griffith undergraduate degrees. You could commence your studies* in the next available trimester.

Course topics

Topics covered in the course include:

  • communicating with texts
  • arguments and perspectives
  • sources of academic knowledge
  • writing for university
  • researching, reading and referencing.

Delivery mode

This course is offered part-time over 7 weeks in on-campus and online modes. It is expected that you will commit to approximately 13 -15 hours per week of study comprised of:

  • a compulsory 3 hour, face-to-face tutorial once each week on campus or online*;
  • approximately 7 hours per week of self-study completing online modules; and
  • approximately 3 hours per week for reading and assessment.

*available for students not currently residing in Brisbane or Gold Coast or who are unable to attend on campus due to work or family commitments.


Tutorials are run once weekly from 5.30 – 8.30 pm

  • On-campus tutorials are run on the Gold Coast and Brisbane campuses
  • Online tutorials use virtual classroom technology

The course fee is $450.

The course will be offered on-campus and online.


This course is for prospective Griffith University students. You could be:

  • an Australian citizen
  • a New Zealand citizen
  • the holder of a permanent resident/humanitarian visa.

Griffith Bridging English caters to domestic mature students who need to meet the English subject prerequisite for Griffith programs, or would like to brush up on their English studies since leaving school.

The course is not available to international students, or applicants who have not completed their studies with English as the language of instruction or worked extensively in an English-speaking environment. Completion of this course will not satisfy English Language Proficiency requirements.
