To go on placement you are required to provide a valid National Police Check.

Applications for an Australian National Police Check must be made via the Australian Federal Police (AFP).

National Police Check certificates are valid for three years and applications can take up to four weeks to process.

When you apply, select Purpose Type ‘Commonwealth Employment/Purpose’ and Purpose of Check ‘37 - Care, Instruction or Supervision of Children/Care of Disabled Persons/Aged Care Staff/Volunteers’ (see below).

Please tick 'Request for Hard Copy Certificate' when applying. A digital copy of the certificate can be accepted, but you may require the hard copy for placement. Not all organisations will accept a digital copy. For more information see our National Police Check fact sheet.

If you have a criminal history

If you have a criminal history, further investigations will be made according to the Australian Health Professionals Registration Association’s Criminal History Registration Standards. For more information, see AHPRA’s registration standards.

A criminal record may jeopardise your placement. We strongly advise you disclose any criminal history to the Health Placement Support Hub as soon as possible.

We are here to support you; the sooner we know of any potential complications a criminal history could create, the better advice we can give.

If you have lived in a country other than Australia after the age of 16, you must submit:

• a National Police Check from that country issued within the last 2 years, or
• a signed and witnessed Statutory Declaration stating that you have never, in Australia or another country, been convicted of murder or sexual assault, or convicted of, and sentenced to imprisonment for, any other form of assault. Please ensure the Statutory Declaration is completed in full, including the witness name, qualification and address.

Your Blue Card permits you to work in positions of trust with children in Queensland. Blue Cards are free for students and are valid for three years. Applications are processed online through Blue Card Services.

Step 1 - Register for an account with Blue Card Services via the Blue Card Services portal to obtain your unique account number

Blue Card Services requires applicants to provide a Queensland Drivers License as proof of identity. If you don’t have a Queensland Drivers License, you can apply for a Customer Reference Number (CRN) by visiting a Transport and Main Roads Customer Service Centre. This is a free service. International students can apply for a Blue Card only after they have arrived in Queensland as they will need to attend a Transport and Main Roads Customer Service Centre in person to obtain a CRN.

If you require the organisation ID for your application, you can either enter 'Griffith University' or our ID number: 1029679

Step 2 - Link your application to Griffith Health

Your Blue Card application must be linked Griffith Health. To do this, send an email to ffpobluecards@griffith.edu.au including the following details:

• Your name
• Blue Card Services account number
• Date of birth
• Student number
• Program

Step 3 - Submit your application

Once you have been linked to Griffith Health you will receive a notification from Blue Card Services. Please log in to your account to complete your application. If applying for a Blue Card for University purposes only, please select 'Student Placement' for the type of child-related work.

Step 4 - Submit your Blue Card in Sonia

Once received please upload a copy of your Blue Card, or the email notification containing your Blue Card number and expiry date.

Important Information

Before renewing or applying for your Blue Card, please read Who cannot apply for or hold a Blue Card? on the Blue Card Services site. If you have been convicted of a disqualifying offence or serious offence, or have been issued a negative notice, you may not apply for a Blue Card.

If your card is lost or stolen, you must apply for a replacement card by submitting a Replacement Blue/Exemption Card Form.

What if I already hold a Blue Card?

If you already have a current Blue Card, submit it to the ‘Blue Card or Working with Children Check’ in Sonia and our team will link it to Griffith Health.

Do registered Health Practitioners require a Blue Card?

Students already registered as Health Practitioners and furthering their studies in the same discipline (such as an Enrolled Nurse completing a Bachelor of Nursing or Midwifery) are exempt from requiring a Blue Card. You must instead submit a copy of your AHPRA registration to the Blue Card check in Sonia. The expiry date of the check will be the same as your registration expiry date (valid for 12 months).

1. You will need to register for a Disability Worker Screening online account before you can apply for your disability worker screening clearance.
2. Once you have registered for your online account, you must log in to the online worker portal to apply for your card.

All applications are processed online through the Disability Worker Screening Worker Portal. Your Identification will be verified through Queensland Department of Transport (TMR) using your Customer Reference Number (CRN). If you don't have a CRN with TMR you will need to attend a TMR centre to obtain your CRN and have your photo taken, this is a free service. If your photo is more than 5 years old you will need to attend a TMR Centre to have your photo retaken.

When completing the application please select Volunteer for Primary Purpose and Another service prescribed by regulation for the Primary Area of Service Delivery.  Enter in Griffith University as Employer details.

The NDIS Worker Orientation Module: Quality, safety and you certificate may be also required for your allocated placement. If required please provide the 'Certificate of Completion' to the facility or your Placement Officer as directed, or submit  in Sonia under the 'NDIS Worker Orientation Module' check (if available).

Please submit to Sonia a current Australian Nationally Accredited 'Provide First Aid' certificate (course code HLTAID011) that includes the 'Provide CPR’ unit (course code HLTAID009).

Your certificate must be issued by a nationally accredited training provider, including:

• Griffith University Student Guild (through Pulsestart)
• Australian Red Cross
• St John Ambulance Australia
• Queensland Ambulance Service (or an interstate equivalent)

First Aid certificates are current for three years and CPR certificates are current for 12 months.

Please note the following exclusions:

• First Aid and CPR certificates from Queensland Health are not acceptable as Queensland Health is not an accredited training provider.
• First Aid and CPR certificates from online courses are not acceptable. You must attend training in person.
• International First Aid or CPR training certificates are not acceptable as training varies between countries.
• Registered health practitioners (such as RNs or Medical Officers) are not exempt from submitting current First Aid and CPR certificates.

Students must meet the costs of their First Aid/CPR course.

Mask fit testing ensures the correct size and brand of respirator mask is properly fitted for your face, providing healthcare workers with an adequate seal to help protect against illness or injury from respiratory hazards in the workplace. Please refer to your Checks page in Sonia to confirm whether mask fit testing is a requirement for your program or placement. If required, students must be fitted for two masks and mask fit testing is to be renewed annually.

The following mask brands and models are required to be fit-tested:

• 3M 1860 Cupped (one size)
• 3M 1860S Cupped (small)
• 3M 1870 Flat Fold (one size)
• Trident RTCFFP2 (universal)
• Halyard 46727 Duckfold (regular)
• Halyard 46827 Duckfold (small)

Mask fit testing bookings are available to students via a link emailed prior to placement, depending on the Program and/or facility allocation. You can also contact the Mask Fit Test team by emailing maskfittesting@griffith.edu.au. Please include your student number, degree and campus.

Students must be clean shaven to perform mask fit testing. Changes to facial structure due to rapid weight gain or loss, or facial surgery, will also require the test to be redone.

The 'Conduct Manual Tasks Safely' course helps you identify, prepare and execute manual tasks in a safe manner.

Please submit to Sonia a current Statement of Attainment for the 'Conduct Manual Tasks Safely' course (course code HLTWHS005) issued by a Nationally Recognised Training Organisation. Manual handling training completed within a Cert III course is not acceptable.

Students must meet the cost of their 'Conduct Manual Tasks Safely' course, and certificates are current for 12 months.

All Nursing students must complete the below iLearn training modules and Queensland Health forms.

To begin, read the information on Queensland Health’s Preparing for your clinical placement page, which lists the certifications and documents needed to go on placement with Queensland Health.

iLearn online training

The iLearn modules are completed through Queensland Health's iLearn website.

You will need an iLearn account to complete the modules. Queensland Health policy is a single user account per person.  If you are a QHealth employee you must use your existing iLearn account. If you do not have an existing iLearn account you will need to apply for one as a Student on clinical placement.  Nursing students are to enter Dr Judith Needham as the Supervisor, with Contact Number 07 3382 1200. Please also use your University email address to identify as a student of Griffith University.

Once logged in to the Queensland Health iLearn website search for the course 'Core Mandatory Training - All Staff'. Click on this course then 'Enrol' to access the below modules, then 'Launch Course'. Please note, if you are renewing any of the below modules please select 'Existing Employee Training'.

• Welcome to Queensland Health - completed once
• Working Ethically - completed annually
• Keeping our Organisation Safe - completed annually
• First Nations - Cultural Safety and Equity in Healthcare - completed once
• Keeping You Safe - completed once

You will need to search for the below courses separately:

• First-Response Evacuation Instructions (FREI) - completed every 2 years
• Keeping Everyone Safe - completed every 3 years
• MAYBO Positive Approaches to Behaviour - completed once
• Infection Control Awareness - completed once
• eHealth ieMR Nursing Student Training - completed annually

You will receive a PDF certificate on completion of each module. Submit a copy of the certificate to the relevant Check in Sonia. Digital badges will not be accepted.

You may be required to complete additional site specific training such as General Evacuation Instructions (GEI) and Infection Prevention and Control.  These modules may not be available on iLearn and may be completed locally on commencement of your placement. If required further direction will be provided by your School and/or the placement facility.

Queensland Health forms

To attend placement with Queensland Health you must complete and sign two key Queensland Health forms:

• the Queensland Health Student Orientation Checklist must be completed after you have met all Fit for Professional Practice requirements (including vaccinations and health tests, Blue Card, Police Checks and Queensland Health iLearn training). Please submit your completed and signed Student Orientation Checklist to the Checks tab in Sonia. Please refer to the Queensland Health Student Orientation Checklist Completion Guide.

• the Queensland Health Student Deed Poll must be completed prior to each placement and provided to the Queensland Health facility. The Deed Poll is a legal agreement between you and Queensland Health. Please ensure you include Griffith University's ABN: 78 106 094 461 and the name of the HHS you have been allocated to eg Metro South HHS. Bring your signed Student Deed Poll with you on your first day of placement.

Online Health and Safety modules

My Health Learning eLearning

The e-Learning modules are available in the My Health Learning system.

Access to My Health Learning is granted 14 days before the placement starts and terminated the day after the placement ends. Access is reactivated for each subsequent placement. Students only have access to a few modules in My Health Learning.

Students not currently on a placement, will not have access to the My Health Learning System.

To log into the My Health Learning system and/or to change your password, please follow these steps:

1. Launch Google Chrome
2. Clear browsing history
3. Go to My Health Learning (make sure you’re not using a bookmark or favourite as it could be going to a different link)
4. Enter StaffLink ID
5. Enter password

If you can’t remember your password, please repeat steps 3 and 4 and then try resetting it via the Forgot Your Password link available on the password entry page.
