The Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics consists of – Accounting, Economics, Finance and Financial Planning and Business Law, each of which actively conducts scholarly and innovative research that is of high relevance to industry, policy makers and the wider community. Academics of the different disciplines have secured grants from international organisations such as the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, United Nations, and national government bodies such as the Australian Research Council, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Department of Natural Resources, Mine and the Environment, Australian Taxation Officer, among others and business organisations, non-governmental organisations and professional bodies such as Consumer Policy Research Centre.
Our researchers publish in world renown and top tier journals, research that contributes to theory as well as practice and policy. Researchers have made policy submissions to government entities such as the Australian Senate in response to government calls for policy submissions. The Department has a very active seminar program where staff and high-profile scholars from Australia and overseas as well as PhD students share the results of their research. The Department also hosts an academic Centre, Centre for Personal Finance and Superannuation and research groups - Corporate Governance, Energy, Social Housing, and the Economic Policy Analysis Program.
