How to apply

1. Apply online for a Master of Music.

2. Pay your audition fee via GriffithPay.

Note: There is an audition fee of $50 per instrument/specialisation. Currently enrolled Griffith University students are exempt from paying the audition fee.

3. Submit a recorded audition to qcguadmissions@griffith.edu.au as per the requirements of your chosen specialisation below.

International students are required to submit details of recorded auditions via the International application process. There is no application deadline for international applicants. However, it is advisable to apply by 31 October for entry in Trimester 1 in the following year and 31 March for entry into Trimester 2 in the same year.

Audition dates and requirements

Phase 1: Application to Queensland Conservatorium is via submission of a recorded audition and/or portfolio. Please refer to your chosen specialisation below for information on how to prepare and submit your recorded audition and/or portfolio.

If successful in Phase 1, you may be invited to Phase 2 (interview), which may either be held in person or online.

The interview may focus on your background education, teaching, music creation and/or performance experience, and future directions and goals.

For study in Trimester 2 2026, applications close 22 June 2026.

Auditions and applications for Master of Music

Applicants apply under one of two program streams.

Pedagogy (Voice)

Artistic Practice

Applicants may apply in one or more of the following areas and may submit a combined portfolio where appropriate.

  • Instrumental and Vocal Performance

Classical, jazz, popular, and contemporary music

This specialisation supports a broad range of performance practices and genres, from Western art music through jazz, popular, and contemporary styles.

Audition Requirements

Phase 1

Application to the Master of Music program at the Queensland Conservatorium is via submission of a Professional Statement (maximum 750 words, PDF format) together with an audition or portfolio submission.

The Professional Statement should outline your professional background, current practice, and goals for postgraduate study. This document is assessed separately and does not form part of the timed audition or portfolio requirements.

Your Professional Statement (PDF) and the links to your audition or portfolio materials must be emailed to qcguadmissions@griffith.edu.au.

Phase 2 (where required)

Following review of Phase 1 submissions, some applicants may be offered entry directly, while others may be invited to an interview. Interviews may be held in person or online. The interview may focus on your background education, teaching, music creation and/or performance experience, and your future directions and goals.

Submission summary

All applicants must submit their audition or portfolio materials as links to online content hosted on a secure platform such as YouTube, Vimeo, Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive. All links must be set to “anyone with the link” so that files can be viewed and downloaded without requiring login credentials. Links that require account access may not be assessed.

All applicants must submit 2–3 contrasting works. The total duration across all submitted works must be at least 15 minutes and no more than 20 minutes.

Applicants must review the specialisation information for their chosen area or areasVocal Pedagogy, Instrumental and Vocal Performance, Conducting, Composition, Creative Music Technology and Production, or Songwriting, as these areas may include additional format and repertoire requirements.

Applicants selecting multiple areas within Artistic Practice may submit a portfolio that combines performance-based video recordings and creative folio materials, provided the submission meets the general and specialisation-specific requirements below.
