Transformative Musical Theatre Education for Tomorrow's Leading Performers
Since its launch in 2024, the Queensland Academy of Excellence in Musical Theatre (QAEMT), Griffith University, at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) has been opening doors for the next generation of performers, welcoming students from grades 10 to 12 who are passionate about musical theatre.
Our pre-tertiary program offers world-class training that sharpens technique, builds stage confidence, and nurtures a kind, collaborative, and inspiring ensemble culture.
Running on Saturdays during Queensland school terms (9.00am–3.00pm), students take group classes in Dance, Acting, and Singing, as well as a dedicated Ensemble class that unites all three skills—developing versatile, stage-ready performers who are confident, expressive, and connected.
Launching in July 2026, the restructured program will transition to a 12-month cycle with a single annual intake mid-year. Applications are open to students in grades 10 and 11, requiring a minimum one-year commitment. Participants will complete the program in June of their grade 12 year.
Core classes
Musical Theatre Acting
Across the year, this class explores the foundations of the actor’s toolkit, giving students practical skills they can use both on stage and in the audition room. From improvisation and sight-reading to tackling monologues, scene work, and audition preparation, students develop confidence, creativity, and adaptability—essential qualities for any aspiring performer.
Musical Theatre Dance
Designed to build the core skills every musical theatre dancer needs, this class blends strength and flexibility training with musical theatre jazz technique, audition preparation, and exciting choreographic variations. Across the term, students not only improve their technique and fitness but also gain confidence, versatility, and a toolkit they can take into both the studio and the audition room.
Musical Theatre Singing
This class gives singers the chance to strengthen the foundations of vocal technique and musicianship, while also learning how to shine as part of a musical theatre ensemble through harmony and vocal blending. With equal emphasis on individual growth and ensemble skills, students build confidence in their unique voice while developing the versatility to connect and perform as part of a group.
Ensemble class
In ensemble class, students take the skills developed in their morning sessions and bring them together in a performance-focused environment. Through Song and Dance, Scene-to-Song work, demonstrations, and showings, they gain the excitement and experience of performing while continuing to strengthen the core skills of singing, acting, and dancing. With an emphasis on collaboration, creativity, and confidence, this class helps young performers build the versatility and stagecraft they can carry into any future opportunity.
Classes are led by some of the specialist staff from our renowned Bachelor of Musical Theatre program, giving students the chance to learn from the same industry professionals who train Queensland’s next generation of performers.
