Bachelor of Musical Theatre
Our next available undergraduate intake is Trimester 1 2027
Admission to the Bachelor of Musical Theatre at the Queensland Academy of Excellence in Musical Theatre is by audition.
Audition submissions for study in Trimester 1 2027 are open from 4 August to 4 September 2026.
Please note that international students need to apply using the international application process.

Steps to apply for the Bachelor of Musical Theatre
Step 1 - Submit your application via QTAC
Submit your application via QTAC
Apply via QTAC and select your degree:

Step 2 - Pay your audition fees
Pay your audition fees
When applying, you must pay a non-refundable audition fee via GriffithPAY by the closing date to be guaranteed an audition in the first audition round.
Audition fees:
- Bachelor of Musical Theatre - $90 each (payable by 4 September 2026).
If you are applying for multiple programs (e.g. Bachelor of Acting and Bachelor of Musical Theatre) you will be required to pay a separate audition fee for each. If you apply and/or pay your audition fee after the closing date, you may be considered in subsequent auditions and offer rounds if places are still available.

Step 3 - Submit a recorded audition and supporting documents
Submit a recorded audition and supporting documents
All applicants for the Bachelor of Musical Theatre will be required to submit a recorded audition. This will be used to select applicants for invitation to a live audition in late September.
After you have submitted your QTAC application and paid your audition fee/s via GriffithPAY, the next step is to prepare your recorded audition.
Submission form will be available here once submissions open.
Submissions for study in Trimester 1 2027 for Bachelor of Musical Theatre open 4 August and close 4 September 2026.
You will be assessed on the quality of your performance—your skills, ability and technique—not the quality of the recording, which may be made using a phone, camera or tablet.

Audition requirements
Recorded submission and performance CV
You are required to submit a video audition, application form/performance CV and headshot photograph as the first phase of a two-phase process.
You will need to upload recorded videos of two prepared songs*, a jazz dance routine, and an introduction.
Your audition videos must include all the elements listed below and be unlisted YouTube or Vimeo videos. The URL s for your audition videos are to be included on the audition application form. Your video links must be set to public viewing (no password required for access).
Introduction
Your recorded introduction to camera should include:
- an introduction of yourself (name and, if you wish, your preferred pronouns)
- a brief description of your musical theatre experience
- an indication of what you aim to get out of your training with us.
Singing
Your two prepared and recorded songs* should be from the musical theatre repertoire and:
- last no longer than two minutes each
- sung without the use of a microphone
- not be from the classical repertoire (this includes opera)
- should be accompanied by a backing track or live piano accompaniment
- give you the opportunity to act through the content of the words, as well as to sing the tune.
*Please be aware of the cultural context of the show/character for your chosen songs and monologues.
Dancing
Your recorded jazz dance routine should be your choice of a commercial jazz or musical theatre routine and:
- include as many of the following elements as you have trained in: kick, pirouette, grand jeté
- the setup should be framed so that you can be seen from the top of your head to the floor, and use good lighting
- not exceed 60 seconds.
Acting
This will be evaluated in your acting through singing. Monologues are only required if you are invited to attend a live audition in Phase 2.
Performance CV
You must complete the proforma Performance CV. This should be saved as a PDF document and uploaded to a cloud-based server (eg Dropbox, iCloud, OneDrive, Google Drive), and the sharing link provided on the audition application form. Ensure that the sharing link is set to ‘anyone with the link can access’.
Please note: Applicants must provide ALL required Phase 1 audition elements by 4 September 2026 to be considered for Phase 2.
Depending on your Phase 1 audition, you may be invited to attend Phase 2.
If you submit your recorded audition after the closing date, you may be considered in subsequent auditions and offer rounds if places are still available.
Step 4 - Attend an in-person call-back audition
Attend an in-person call-back audition
If your Phase 1 recorded audition is successful, you will be invited to attend Phase 2, which will be conducted in-person during audition week.
All callbacks are conducted in small groups. During the session, each auditionee will present their audition material to the panel while the other members of the group observe.
Audition week will be held between 28 September - 2 October 2026 in our studios at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), Brisbane.
Please note that online auditions will not be offered.
The Phase 2 Call-back audition will cover the following:
Warm-up
Through group play, your improvisation skills may be explored within a warm-up session.
Acting
You will present two prepared monologues: one selected from the set list linked below and one of your own choosing.
Auditionees should expect to receive direction and participate in a workshop-style exploration of their material.
Singing
You will be required to present the songs prepared for your Phase 1 audition and may be asked to perform one or both selections.
Auditionees must provide printed sheet music for the accompanist in the correct key, clearly marked with any cuts or amendments.
Aural Investigation
Each applicant will be asked to complete basic aural investigations such as pitch awareness, harmony awareness and unaccompanied scales. A range test may also be requested in this one-on-one session.
Dancing
Following a series of basic technical exercises, a short dance combination will be taught. Auditionees will then be divided into groups of three or four and asked to perform the combination for the panel.
Voice
Your spoken voice will be considered during the performance of your monologues.
