Aerospace Leader

Professor Paulo de Souza

Our Aerospace lead Professor Paulo de Souza is Dean Research for Griffith's Sciences Group and formerly the CSIRO’s Chief Research Scientist.

Paulo contributed to the design, production, deployment and operation of a sensor onboard NASA’s Mars rovers Opportunity and Spirit, whose discoveries were named Science Magazine’s prestigious “Breakthrough of the Year”.

A co-author of several international patents and more than 200 peer-reviewed publications, Paulo is also an experienced science communicator, with his research covered by global media including CNN, Al Jazeera, Time Magazine, Forbes, The Guardian and the BBC.

Griffith Aerospace’s team of researchers and academics include experts from a broad spectrum of space-related disciplines, from software including remote sensing, engineering, governance and law, to space education and health in space.
