Diffusion Stream Models for Real-time Remote Sensing in Environmental Monitoring

We are seeking a PhD candidate for a research project aimed at developing a real-time, scalable monitoring system that leverages diffusion-based stream models and complex event processing to detect and explain anomalous methane (CHâ‚„) emissions using satellite and sensor data. The candidate will design a novel AI framework that integrates remote sensing time series (e.g. from Sentinel-5P, GHGSat) with multi-modal data streams—including weather, land use, and industrial activity—to identify high-risk events such as leaks from agricultural zones, landfills, or fossil fuel infrastructure. A key focus will be on interpretability and operational readiness, ensuring the system can support timely responses by environmental regulators, industry, and policy-makers. Success in this role requires collaboration with industry partners, reporting weekly throughout the project’s duration.
