Treating Childhood Specific Phobias FAST! A Nationwide Randomised Controlled Trial of Families Accessing CBT Skills Training in Exposure Therapy

Australian Rotary Health

This research study is evaluating a new parent-training program designed to help children overcome specific phobias. The study will test FAST-CBT (Families Accessing Skills Training, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) for Specific Phobia, a brief online intervention that teaches parents practical cognitive-behavioural therapy skills, particularly exposure techniques, so they can support their child to gradually face and overcome their fears at home.

Families across Australia will be randomly assigned to either the FAST-CBT parent-training program delivered via online modules and telehealth sessions, or care as usual. The aim of the study is to determine whether this parent-led, digitally delivered approach can effectively reduce children’s phobia symptoms and increase access to early, evidence-based treatment for families.
