Streamlining your research project collaborations

We've created this page to help researchers optimize collaboration and communication within their research projects.

The information on this page provides recommendations based on the tools available at Griffith.

Each research project is different and your project may require further consultation. If you'd like further assistance or had any questions, don't hesitate to get in contact.

Collaboration Platforms

SharePoint or Teams sites offer excellent collaboration options. With each creation of a Teams, a connecting SharePoint site is also created. However, you do have the option of creating a SharePoint site by itself.

A Teams is useful for direct communication, booking meetings, creating project tasks, sharing data to those who have access to the Teams and has many more options available. A SharePoint site is useful for sharing information or for sharing specific files/folders. A site can also be made internally facing allowing you to also create an informational page.

We recommend that you store active research data in a separate SharePoint site from other project documentation to ensure security of data.

You can view specific information for research on the For Research SharePoint site.

You can also go straight ahead and request the creation of a Teams / SharePoint. They are created using a request through the MyHub tab within Microsoft Teams.

Lastly, if you're unsure how it'll work for your research project you can get in contact.

If you've got external collaborators you may find they need a Griffith account to access certain systems.

A guest account is for short term access up to a maximum of 10 working days. Requests can be made through the guest account website.

Visitor accounts are the alternative if longer access is required. Additional information and how to request visitor accounts can be found on the Requesting IT account page.

If your research project requires a code repository, we have a Gitlab server available to all researchers. This is a place to store programming code in a safe place, housed at Griffith University.

Any Griffith staff member who would like to have a git repository stored and you can log in with your normal S Number and Password. You can have private repositories and share them in your team or with external collaborators.

To access the Griffith Gitlab: https://gitlab.rcs.griffith.edu.au

Note:

  • The Griffith Gitlab is only accessible on campus or by using the Griffith VPN
  • New Gitlab accounts are automatically blocked due to an in-built security feature of Gitlab. To unblock your account and gain access to Gitlab you can submit a request to eResearch Support
  • Your account is not created until you attempt to log in for the first time. Please attempt to sign in once before submitting an access request.

Australian Research Data Commons, or ARDC for short, is full of helpful resources. There is information allowing you to collaborate on data or access to the ARDC Nectar Research Cloud.

We suggest to give the site a look and there may be something you find helpful.
