Improving road safety across Queensland

The Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC) and Griffith University have partnered to advance road safety through cutting-edge research in traffic psychology and driver behaviour.

Our collaboration focuses on critical areas where evidence can save lives: motorcycle safety, work-related driving, driving and decision making in adverse weather, and fleet operations - from heavy vehicles and rideshare to grey fleet and motorhome tourism.

Using state-of-the-art facilities including driving simulators, biometric monitoring, and eye-tracking technology, we work alongside industry partners to translate research into practical safety solutions for Queensland's roads.

Our Mission

Our research team is at the forefront of road safety research in Queensland and Australia. Operating from both our Brisbane South (Nathan Campus - School of Applied Psychology) and Gold Coast Campus locations, we are proud to be the research hub for the MAIC-Griffith University Road Safety Research Collaboration.

Through rigorous, evidence-based research, we aim to:

  • Reduce road trauma and save lives
  • Inform government policy and industry best practices
  • Develop practical interventions and training programs
  • Advance scientific understanding of driver behaviour and road safety
