Isabella Sullivan has overcome personal hardship to pursue excellence, but the rising cost of living was becoming insurmountable. The Brighter Futures Scholarship has helped secure the destiny of a promising and ambitious young person.

When Isabella was born, she was diagnosed with a rare medical condition called panhypopituitarism, where the production and secretion of all the hormones normally produced by the pituitary gland is impaired, affecting physical development and how the body works.

But Isabella has not let this condition define her. Instead, she has flourished, becoming heavily involved in community service, Youth Parliament and advocacy for First Peoples in Australia.

Since early childhood, she’s been involved in Girl Guides, receiving its peak achievement, the Queen’s Guide Award and was named 2025 Junior Citizen of the Year for the Southern Downs region. Isabella also volunteers as Co-Chair of the Federal Youth Steering Committee and is an active member of the National Indigenous Education Coalition’s Congress Champions.

“All of these initiatives, causes and community groups have helped me to understand my own values and how I can work towards making an impact on a broader scale,” says Isabella.

During her studies, Isabella has discovered a passion for diplomacy and wants to help people in government to find common ground with the underrepresented communities they serve.

“I am immensely proud of my cultural heritage and have always championed and campaigned on the promise of a better future for all. I believe community service and advocacy are integral to creating real change,” says Isabella.

Despite Isabella’s impressive track record and her promising future almost certainly secured, cost of living realities had started becoming impossible to ignore—expensive textbooks, transportation, rent and much more.

But the generous donations that make the Brighter Futures Scholarship possible, have paved the way for one of our most promising and hard-working young leaders.

“It’s humbling to know there are people within the Griffith community who are willing to support passionate young people like me to pursue their dream,” says Isabella.

“I want to work across borders using diplomacy and focus on creating civil dialogues that influences countries, organisations and non-government entities to work together in the best interest of the world.”
