Griffith University’s Brighter Futures Scholarships program helps students experiencing financial hardship access education and make the most of university life. Donations provide vital support for study and living costs, giving students greater stability, confidence and opportunity to pursue their goals. Every contribution makes a difference—including gifts made through Staff Giving, an important part of the program that brings our community together to help students thrive.
One Brighter Futures Scholarship, provides $5,000 or $10,000 each year to help our students in need.
Griffith University is endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office as a Deductible Gift Recipient. Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible in Australia.
100% of your donation goes directly to students as the University absorbs all administration costs.
Griffith University will match your donation dollar for dollar.

Skye McRae-Mitchell
Skye McRae-Mitchell took the courageous step to overcome her fear of failure and restart her university studies. But without the Brighter Futures Scholarship she would be facing a significant financial struggle.

Scholarship types
This suite of scholarships are awarded to commencing and continuing students and includes some scholarships that are specific for students registered with Student Disability and Accessibility Support, some specific for First Peoples students, as well as some specific to students who are permanent residents. The Brighter Futures Scholarships program has grown to support a broader and more diverse community of students, giving more people the financial security and encouragement they need to thrive at university.

2025 scholarship recipients
Mariah Howell
Mariah Howell is transforming her difficult upbringing into a career that’s helping others find their own brighter future. Now in the third year of her Bachelor of Social Work, Mariah continues to excel in her studies and hopes to work for an organisation such as Bravehearts, supporting victims of child sexual abuse and making social support services accessible for everyone.
Harmony Otrupcek
For Gamilaraay woman Harmony Otrupcek, art is more than just a form of expression—it’s a way of connecting with and understanding the world. Beyond financial support, the Brighter Futures Scholarship is providing the mental space for her to explore opportunities and develop creatively.
Zac and Jesse Zborovsky
Twin brothers Zac (Bachelor of Exercise Science) and Jesse Zborovsky (Bachelor of Paramedicine) are achieving academic excellence since moving from Victoria, thanks to their Brighter Futures Scholarships. Despite their packed study schedules and soccer training, the Zborovsky brothers both maintain a GPA above 6.0 and are members of Griffith’s Student Academy of Excellence.
Chelsea Thorn
Having never graduated high school—and lacking an ATAR—Chelsea chose Griffith University for its support, flexibility and willingness to help people with alternative pathways into higher education. She’s come a long way from the New Zealand town of Motueka, where she had to leave high school during her final year to work full time, to criminal prosecuting for the Queensland Police Service on the Gold Coast.
