Support for Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) students in their penultimate year
The purpose of the Owen Smith in Memoriam Engineering Scholarship is to provide support for students studying Engineering at Griffith University impacted by various types of educational disadvantage, including financial hardship, educational disruption, disability or others, that has impacted their ability to achieve their full potential. Preference will be given to students of Pacific Islander Heritage.

Scholarship details
To be eligible, you must:
- be an Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident, Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa holder, New Zealand citizen, or Pacific Engagement visa holder
- be full-time enrolled in the penultimate year of the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), including double degrees
- have good academic progress
- demonstrate educational disadvantage based on a comprehensive assessment by the University.

Information provided by individuals in their Griffith online scholarship application is assessed and ranked in accordance with the following Educational Disadvantage Assessment categories:
- Financial Hardship
- Home Environment and Responsibilities
- English Language Difficulty
- Personal Illness and Disability
- Educational Disruption
- Relocation within Australia.
Value
Maximum value is $5,000. Instalments of $2,500 are payable for each full-time enrolled trimester conditions are met up to maximum value of the scholarship.
Payment
Payments are made up to three weeks after the census date, subject to satisfying scholarship terms and conditions.
To remain eligible for the scholarship, you will be required to:
- remain full-time enrolled at Griffith University in the degree for which this scholarship was awarded
- maintain a minimum program GPA of 4
The above conditions are verified each trimester at census date. If a scholarship recipient fails to successfully meet these conditions, scholarship payments may be withheld, or the scholarship may be terminated.
The scholarship cannot be deferred.
Recipients may take a leave of absence in accordance with university policy. Scholarship benefits are suspended for the period of leave of absence.
