Support for Gold Coast law students with a high level of sporting ability
The Hannay Criminal Defence Law Sports Scholarship was established by Hannay Lawyers, who wish to continue investing in the community and support Gold Coast-based law students who have excelled in sport, with an interest in pursuing a legal career.

Scholarship details
To be eligible, you must:
- be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or permanent humanitarian visa holder
- be currently studying, or be commencing study, in the Bachelor of Law (Honours) undergraduate degree (including double degrees) at the Gold Coast campus
- have a high degree of sporting ability and provide evidence.
Students may apply in any year of study.

- Personal statement: To give yourself the best chance, we recommend you complete the personal statement. In 500 words or less, outline your:
- career goals and aims
- sporting achievements—either in this section or as an attachment (see supporting documentation section below).
- Supporting documentation: You must upload the following in the supporting documentation (other) section:
- A comprehensive date-ordered list (showing 2026 first in the list and going backwards, that is 2025, 2024, 2023, etc.) of your sporting achievements, including times and placing/ranking.
- Copies of your most outstanding sporting certificates/awards/copies of media articles that make you stand out in your chosen sport.

*Selection based on the level of competition that the athlete competes in and current participation.
Value
The maximum value is $10,000, payable in instalments. Instalments of $1,250 per 10 Credit Points (CP) are payable for each enrolled trimester that conditions are met, up to the maximum value of the scholarship.
Payment
Payments are made up to three weeks after the census date subject to the recipient satisfying scholarship terms and conditions.
Scholarship continuation
Subject to receipt of donor funding, and at the discretion of the University, the scholarship may be awarded for an additional period of up to a maximum of four years. Recipients will be notified in writing of the outcome in each applicable year.
To remain eligible for the scholarship, recipients will be required to:
- remain full-time enrolled in the approved program at census date
- remain in good academic standing
- maintain an appropriate status in their sport and submit sporting performance reports on a biannual basis
A scholarship recipient may take leave of absence in accordance with University policy. Scholarship benefits are suspended for the period of leave of absence. Recipients must not defer for more than one trimester to remain eligible for the scholarship. Payments will be suspended for the trimester the student defers, however will resume once the student returns to full-time study.
Recipients may be invited to meet with the donor and feature in marketing materials to promote the scholarship.
The above conditions are verified each trimester at census date. If a scholarship recipient fails to successfully meet these conditions, scholarship payments may be withheld, or the scholarship may be terminated.
