Support to pursue a business degree

The Griffith Business School Next Step Scholarship encourages motivated and ambitious candidates to pursue an undergraduate degree hosted by Griffith Business School.

Applications are encouraged from school and non-school leaver candidates who have a Griffith business degree as their first preference. This scholarship provides support for students affected by different types of educational disadvantage (financial hardship, educational disruption, disability or others) that has impacted their ability to achieve their full potential.

Scholarship details

To be eligible, you must:

  • be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or hold a humanitarian visa
  • be applying for university study for the first time in Trimester 1 2024
  • be applying for admission to (and commencing study in the trimester for which the round applies) an undergraduate degree hosted by GBS
  • have the GBS degree as your first preference on your QTAC or UAC application
  • demonstrate educational disadvantage based on a comprehensive assessment by the University
  • not be in receipt of any other scholarship.

Application assessment

Applicants will be ranked according to the universities comprehensive Educational Disadvantage Assessment (EDA). Information provided by individuals in their Griffith online scholarship application is assessed and ranked in accordance with the following Educational Disadvantage Assessment categories:

  1. Financial hardship
  2. Home environment and responsibilities
  3. English language difficulty
  4. Personal illness and disability
  5. Educational disruption
  6. Relocation within Australia.

Value

Maximum value of the scholarship is $5,000 for one year or 80 credit points (equivalent to $625 per 10 credit points).

Payment

Instalments are based on enrolled credit points for the trimester, up to the maximum value. Payments are made directly to the recipients' nominated bank account up to six weeks after the census date of each trimester, subject to satisfying scholarship terms and conditions.

Please note payments made to those studying part-time may be taxable.

To remain eligible for the scholarship, recipients will be required to:

  • maintain a minimum term GPA of 4 or above (each trimester)
  • remain enrolled in a Griffith Business School-hosted degree (changes to the degree for which the scholarship is awarded may impact the value of this scholarship)
  • not be in receipt of any other scholarship

The above conditions are verified each trimester at census date. If a scholarship recipient fails to successfully meet these conditions, it is at the discretion of the GBS Scholarship Selection Committee to withhold the trimester instalment or terminate the scholarship.
