The purpose of the EJ Smith Scholarship is to support Griffith students who reside in, or are relocating from, the Jimboomba community.

The scholarship is open to commencing or continuing students affected by different types of educational disadvantage—financial hardship, educational disruption, disability or others—that have impacted their ability to achieve their full potential.

Scholarship details

To be eligible, you must:

  • be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, permanent humanitarian visa holder, or New Zealand citizen
  • be a commencing or continuing undergraduate student, enrolled full-time
  • be in good academic progress (continuing students only)
  • demonstrate educational disadvantage based on a comprehensive assessment by the University
  • reside in, or be relocating for study from, the Jimboomba community in Queensland.

Application assessment

Information provided by individuals in their Griffith online scholarship application is assessed and ranked in accordance with the following Educational Disadvantage Assessment categories:

  1. Financial Hardship
  2. Home Environment and Responsibilities
  3. English Language Difficulty
  4. Personal Illness and Disability
  5. Educational Disruption
  6. Relocation within Australia.

Value

Maximum value of the scholarship is determined by the remaining length of the undergraduate degree for which you are awarded:

  • $15,000 for a single degree (240 CP)
  • $20,000 for a double degree (320 CP).

The scholarship is payable in instalments of $625 per 10 Credit Points enrolled each trimester that conditions are met, up to the maximum value of the scholarship based on remaining minimum degree length.

Payment

Payments are made up to three weeks after the census date subject to satisfying scholarship terms and conditions.

To remain eligible for the scholarship, you will be required to:

  • remain full-time enrolled at Griffith University in the degree for which the scholarship was awarded, the scholarship is not transferrable between degrees
  • maintain a minimum GPA 4.0.

The above conditions are verified each trimester at census date. If a scholarship recipient fails to successfully meet these conditions, scholarship payments may be withheld, or the scholarship may be terminated.

A scholarship recipient may take leave of absence in accordance with University policy. Scholarship benefits are suspended for the period of leave of absence.

Applications, including any supporting documentation, must be completed and submitted by the closing date.

Griffith University reserves the right to withdraw an advertised scholarship at any time.
