The goal of the Avant Foundation Doctor of Medicine Rural Placement Scholarship is to provide support to a final year student who is studying a Doctor of Medicine (MD) affected by different types of educational disadvantage (financial hardship, educational disruption, disability or others) and taking part in a rural placement.

Scholarship details
To be eligible you must:
- be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, permanent humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen
- demonstrate educational disadvantage based on a comprehensive assessment by the University
- be enrolled in the final-year (Phase 3) of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program
- be taking part in a full year of Longlook (longitudinal clerkship) program as designated rural hospital in their final year of study – will be confirmed by the Medical Placements Team.
Please note: Students enrolled in Griffith University’s Toowoomba end-to-end rural medical program are not eligible for this award.

Application assessment
Students will need to demonstrate educational disadvantage that impacts their ability to achieve their potential.
Information provided by individuals in their Griffith online scholarship application is assessed and ranked in accordance with the following Educational Disadvantage Assessment (EDA) categories:
- Financial hardship
- Home environment and responsibilities
- English language difficulty
- Personal illness and disability
- Educational disruption
- Remoteness or relocation within Australia.
Selection is based primarily on the Educational Disadvantage Assessment rank.
Value
The maximum value is $10,000. Instalments of $5,000 will be made by Griffith University direct to the recipients nominated bank account up to three weeks after the Census Date of T1 and T2 subject to maintaining ongoing eligibility requirements.
Recipients of the scholarship may be invited to attend the annual Avant Awards night as guests of the Foundation.
To remain eligible for the scholarship, recipients will be required to:
- remain enrolled full-time in their final year of the Doctor of Medicine program at Griffith University
- remain in good academic progress.
The above conditions are verified each trimester at census date. If a scholarship recipient fails to successfully meet these conditions, further scholarship payments may be withheld, or the scholarship may be terminated.
The recipient may be invited to meet with the donor and feature in marketing materials to promote the Scholarship.
Deferral of the scholarship is not permitted.
Applications must be completed and submitted by the closing date.

Applicants may be shortlisted and be required to provide additional information.
