Support to undertake and complete nursing and midwifery studies

The purpose of the Adora Indigenous Nursing and Midwifery Scholarships is to support and engage Indigenous Nursing and Midwifery students enrolled in either the Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Midwifery programs at Griffith University who are experiencing financial hardship.

Scholarship details

To be eligible you must:

  • be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander*
  • be an Australian Citizen
  • be enrolled in the Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Midwifery program at Griffith University in year one, two or three
  • have at least two trimesters of full-time equivalent study remaining in your degree
  • demonstrate financial hardship.

*You will be asked to provide a Confirmation of Heritage. A letter of confirmation is usually obtained from an incorporated Indigenous organisation and stamped with their common seal.

Application information

Candidates will be ranked based on their demonstrated financial hardship as well as their ability to articulate the personal benefit of the scholarship to support their career aspirations in nursing or midwifery studies.

Financial hardship can be demonstrated by either being in receipt of a means-tested Commonwealth income support payment or a comprehensive assessment by the University.

  • Personal statement: Up to 250 words detailing your goals, how this scholarship will benefit you financially and support you in your nursing or midwifery studies, and any future aspirations in a nursing or midwifery career.
  • Supporting documentation: You must upload the following:
    • Confirmation of Heritage, such as a letter of confirmation obtained from an incorporated Indigenous organisation and stamped with their Common Seal.

Value

Maximum value is $15,000. The instalment amount is based on enrolled credit points per trimester, being $625 per 10 credit points, up to the maximum value of the scholarship or minimum duration of the program, whichever is the lesser. Instalments are payable for each enrolled trimester conditions are met.

Successful recipients will be supported for the duration of their Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Midwifery studies, as long as they continue to meet the conditions of this scholarship.

Independent of the scholarship, Adora may offer a paid internship opportunity to successful scholarship recipients.

Please note payments made whilst part-time study may be taxable.

Payment

Payments are made up to six weeks after the Census Date subject to satisfying scholarship Terms and conditions.

To remain eligible for the scholarship, recipients will be required to:

  • remain enrolled at Griffith University in the program for which the scholarship was awarded
  • maintain good academic progress at Griffith University and maintain satisfactory progress during their course of study as advised by the School of Nursing and Midwifery Executive
  • be willing to attend an initial meeting after notification of their scholarship award with a representative from the Griffith University School of Nursing and Midwifery and a representative of GUMURRII
  • agree to be approached by Griffith University to provide testimonials and quotes for promotional programs and external activities
  • continue to meet the financial hardship requirements (documentation required).

The above conditions are verified each trimester at census date. If a scholarship recipient fails to successfully meet these conditions, scholarship payments may be withheld, or the scholarship may be terminated.

Applications, including referee reports and any supporting documentation, must be completed and submitted by the closing date.

Successful recipients will be supported for the duration of their Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Midwifery studies; the continuation of the scholarship is at the discretion of Adora and the Generations Foundation and is subject to the recipient meeting the terms and conditions of the scholarship for each applicable Trimester.
