Support for students doing practical placements
Here are some opportunities and resources for students on placements. In line with the University Accord report, Griffith continues to advocate for Government support of students on placement.
Scholarships and bursaries
Student financial support bursary
A one-off payment is available to eligible students to help with education-related expenses such as transport, textbooks and software. This bursary is for students who are experiencing unexpected financial challenges.
Griffith scholarships
We now offer more scholarships than ever, providing financial support to a wider range of students so they have the additional support they need to succeed. There’s no need to apply for individual scholarships. Simply submit the form once each year and you’ll automatically be considered for all of them.
Teaching students
Scholarships and grants for teaching students
The Queensland Government lists a range of scholarships and grants for students studying Initial Teacher Educations (ITE).
Nursing and midwifery students
Health and aged care scholarships
The Australian College of Nursing lists current Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care scholarships and can keep you up to date when scholarships are open for application. Their webpage also provides a list of external scholarships.
Southern Queensland rural bursaries
The Southern Queensland Rural Health bursary provides $100 per week during placement for nursing, midwifery and allied health students planning an extended placement in a rural location.
Services Australia relocation scholarships
Services Australia provides relocation scholarships for students who are receiving Austudy or ABSTUDY and need to move to a remote or rural location to complete their practical placement.
Queensland Government cost of living allowance
Students in their final stage or year before qualifying—and registering as an enrolled or registered nurse or midwife—may be eligible for a Queensland Government cost of living allowance to complete their clinical placement in a rural, remote or regional location.
Australian Rotary Health rural scholarships
Australian Rotary Health has a rural nursing scholarship program to provide incentive for nursing students to complete their third-year major clinical placements in a regional or rural location.
Primary Care Nursing and Midwifery Scholarship
Primary Care Nursing and Midwifery Scholarship Program provides scholarships that enable registered nurses and midwives to undertake postgraduate study. This includes supporting registered nurses to become nurse practitioners and midwives to become endorsed midwives in the primary care and aged care health sector.
New Commonwealth Prac Payment
Financial support will soon be available for nursing, midwifery, teaching and social work students undertaking prac placements from July 2025
