PhD Candidate
Nguyen Nam Trung is a PhD Candidate at Griffith University specialising in the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI), human security, and legal governance in developing countries. His doctoral research examines AI-induced social harms—including algorithmic bias, privacy risks, and digital inequality—and considers how existing legal frameworks may not fully address these challenges. Drawing on an interdisciplinary approach, his work aims to explore a human security–based perspective for strengthening legal and policy responses, with a particular focus on Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
Trung’s research background includes work on AI governance and privacy, including his study on AI surveillance and the right to privacy in Vietnam from a human security perspective. His broader academic interests include comparative law, international trade law, and regulatory frameworks related to ESG and corporate social responsibility (CSR), particularly in the context of developing economies.
Beyond his research, Trung has experience in legal education and academic activities. He is affiliated with the Faculty of Law at the University of Economics and Finance (UEF) in Ho Chi Minh City, where he contributes to teaching, research development, and international academic engagement. He has also contributed to the organisation of national and international academic activities, including moot court competitions and interdisciplinary seminars in comparative and international law.
In addition, Trung is interested in interdisciplinary collaboration and policy-oriented research. His work seeks to contribute to ongoing discussions on digital governance, sustainable development, and inclusive growth in Asia.
