Seema Chauhan is a registered migration agent, community leader and advocate for multicultural inclusion. Founder of Abode Australia Migration, she has spent more than 18 years helping migrants navigate their Australian journey. Through leadership, philanthropy and community service, she champions education, diversity, gender equity and social inclusion.
Can you share a specific initiative or current project you are working on that excites you?
One initiative close to my heart is supporting girls’ education in the Himalayan region, a commitment I have proudly continued since 2005. Through a scholarship established in my father’s name, I have helped provide educational opportunities for young girls, inspiring them to strive for excellence, pursue their aspirations, and create a brighter future. Witnessing their growth and achievements continues to be deeply rewarding and inspiring.
Tell us something that might surprise others to learn about you.
At 18, I was eager to participate in the Himalayan Car Rally. While my studies took priority and I couldn’t pursue it then, the adventurous spirit and curiosity that inspired me then continue to shape my journey today.
What inspired you to pursue your current career path?
My passion for problem-solving, combined with the flexibility my career offered, enabled me to build a rewarding profession while being present for my daughters during their formative years. Balancing both responsibilities has been one of the most meaningful and fulfilling aspects of my journey.
Why does your work matter?
Through my work, I contribute to Australia’s growth by helping people make Australia their home—reuniting families, supporting students in pursuing their dreams, and assisting skilled migrants as they begin their journey in Australia. It is rewarding to know that I play a part in guiding people whose contributions help strengthen our communities and shape Australia’s future.
What advice would you give to a current Griffith student or recent graduate?
Stay curious, keep learning, and build genuine relationships. Your degree opens doors, but your attitude, adaptability, and network will help you make the most of the opportunities that come your way.
What’s your favourite Griffith story to tell friends, family or colleagues?
My favourite Griffith story is the international exposure I gained through studying alongside a diverse cohort of classmates from around the world. Learning from my peers’ experiences, perspectives, and knowledge enriched my understanding of global business and helped me build lifelong connections. I was also fortunate to participate in an international exchange through the ESSAM (European Summer School for Advanced Management) program in 2000 at the Aarhus School of Business in Denmark, which further expanded my global outlook and passion for international learning.
What does it mean to you to be recognised by Griffith?
Being recognised by Griffith is both humbling and meaningful. It reflects the journey, opportunities, and values that have shaped me, and I am grateful to remain connected to a university community that continues to inspire growth and positive impact.
