Mannu Kala is an entrepreneur, healthcare innovator and philanthropist whose ventures span healthcare, technology and community development. Co-Founder and Co-Director of KnG Healthcare, he has led innovative care models supporting hospital systems across Australia. Through business and philanthropy, he is committed to expanding healthcare access, education and community opportunity.
What’s your favourite Griffith story to tell friends, family or colleagues?
When I first arrived in Australia, Griffith provided me with a $300 emergency loan so I could pay for food, rent and basic living expenses. It was relief at a time when I needed it most. Today, being able to support scholarships feels like repaying that kindness with interest. Growing up in a small town in India and later moving across the world to start again in Australia taught me resilience, adaptability and determination. Every challenge became an opportunity to grow.
Why are you proud to be a Griffith alumnus?
Griffith is the reason I am in this beautiful country. Griffith opened the door to Australia for me. Without that opportunity, my journey would have been very different. It's a place that changed the direction of my life.
Why does your work matter?
It’s not work; I just solve problems. Because every problem solved creates an opportunity for someone else. Whether it's healthcare, education or technology, the goal is always to improve people's lives.
What impact are you most proud of having?
Helping solve major healthcare challenges during COVID-19 and developing new models of care that reduced hospital bed block are moments I'm incredibly proud of. Knowing those solutions improved patient outcomes makes all the hard work worthwhile.
Can you share a specific initiative or current project you are working on that excites you?
I'm passionate about building MK Tech Innovations and establishing the Gold Coast as Australia's Silicon Coast—bringing together healthcare, technology and innovation to solve complex problems.
How do you see your industry evolving?
Healthcare and technology are rapidly converging. I believe Australia could become a global leader in health innovation, and I'd love to see the Gold Coast recognised as Australia's Silicon Coast.
Is there a fictional character/setting that closely resembles your career/work?
Tony Stark—he constantly looks for impossible problems to solve and isn't afraid to challenge conventional thinking
How do you spend your downtime?
The best part of my downtime is spending it with my family and my children. They keep me grounded and remind me why the work matters.
What advice would you give to a current Griffith student or recent graduate?
- Think differently.
- Be disciplined.
- Learn when to say no.
- Take calculated risks.
- Focus on making an impact, not just making money.
- If you solve meaningful problems, success will follow.
What does it mean to you to be recognised by Griffith?
It means more than an award. Coming to Griffith was the biggest decision of my life. This recognition reminds me that taking that leap of faith was worth it and reinforces my commitment to giving back.
