Explore our collection of Australian early experimental video art

Our Moving Image and Sound Archive portal offers a rotating program of curatorial projects that recontextualise and provide access to screenings from Griffith University Art Collection’s Moving Image and Sound Archive, one of the largest collections of Australian early experimental video art. The archive offers a unique and detailed account of pivotal moments in Australian art history.

Curated by Brisbane-based video artist Simone Hine, the portal allows audiences to engage more intimately with the works and forms part of the research outcomes for Archiving Australian Media Arts: Towards a method and a national collection, which is dedicated to the preservation of digital media in Australia.

This three-year research project funded by the Australian Research Council involves collaboration between researchers at Swinburne University, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Griffith University, the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the State Library of South Australia, Experimenta Media Arts, dLux Media Arts, Australian Network for Art & Technology, UNESCO PERSIST, and Rhizome.
