About the project
Voice and Belonging is a three-year project (2024–2027) funded by the Australian Research Council. It examines the role of ethnic media in the settlement experiences of humanitarian migrants and refugees, framing media engagement as a vital pathway to fostering belonging. This is the first national study to map Australia’s ‘migrant mediasphere,’ with a focus on newly arrived and emerging communities. The project will generate new insights into how migrant communities connect through media and how media fits within broader settlement services. Its findings will benefit humanitarian arrivals, ethnic media outlets, service providers, peak bodies, and policymakers in both urban and regional areas.
