Dzung Dao

Prof. Dao is a passionate teacher in Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering. His teaching philosophy is based on the CDIO (Conceive, Design, Implement, Operate) framework and experiential learning to develop student's critical & creative thinking capability and hands-on skills, enable them to solve unfamiliar and complicated real-world engineering problems in their future career. The courses that he has been teaching include Mechanical Engineering Design, Mechatronic Systems Design, Electromechanics, Precision Engineering and Prototyping, Kinematics and Dynamics.

Prof Dao's research has been focused on Advanced sensing technology, MEMS sensors & actuators, sensors for harsh environments, and Mechatronics. He has published over 200 journal papers, 180 conference papers, 5 books/book chapters, and filed 17 patents. Most papers were published on high-impact journals, including Physics Reports (Impact factor: 28),  Nature Communications (IF >11), Science Advances (IF > 12), Nano Energy (IF > 15), etc.

Dr Dao has collaborated and provided technology consulting services to over 15 companies in Australia, Japan and USA to develop innovative microdevices and technology in the field of MEMS and advanced sensing.

He has secured over $8.5M research funds from governments, industry and universities, including ARC DP, ARC linkage, ARC LIEF grants, DFAT, industry consultancy grants, university grants, etc.

March 2019

  • Our Mechanical Engineering at Griffith University has received the highest possible rating of 5 (well above the world standard) in recent ERA (Excellence in Research for Australia) results. Only 8 out of 20 evaluated universities in Australia could achieve this highest level. Griffith team came 9th among 19 teams from universities across Australia, New Zealand, and Malaysia.
