This is what you study at school in Years 11 & 12, like General English and Physics.

A prerequisite is a senior subject you must have successfully completed in order to get into a particular degree. English is a prerequisite for most Griffith degrees, and some of our degrees have additional prerequisites like Specialist Mathematics or Chemistry.

Assumed knowledge is a senior subject we assume you have done as it will help you understand degree content, but it is optional.

Recommended knowledge is a senior subject that’s good to have done for you to understand your degree, but it's also optional.

We've made the Subject Adviser easy for you to tell if your senior subject selections meet degree criteria using the following symbols:

– I meet the criteria

✕ – I do not meet the criteria

Let's break down this example:

If you have studied and successfully completed any Diploma, General or Essential English subject and got a C or better in Units 3 & 4, you meet the prerequisites of this degree.

If you have completed Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics and got a C or better in Units 3 & 4, you meet the assumed knowledge for this degree.

This degree has no recommended knowledge, so you meet this criteria.

Some qualifications can meet English subject prerequisites.

Completed qualification Meets the English subject prerequisite
AQF Certificate III No
AQF Certificate IV No
AQF Certificate IV in Adult Tertiary Preparation Yes*
AQF Diploma Yes
AQF Advanced Diploma Yes

[*] Partial completion may also meet the English subject prerequisite, depending on which modules you have successfully completed.
