Our Bachelor of Midwifery degree blends online learning with two-week intensive blocks on campus each semester. You’ll learn from expert midwives in midwifery laboratories that simulate the clinical environment. You’ll also undertake midwifery clinical experience through extensive placements in health services involving morning, evening and night shifts.

Clinical Placements

You’ll also undertake midwifery clinical experience through extensive placements in health services involving morning, evening and night shifts.

Placements are available at a range of sites and partner hospitals, from the Sunshine Coast to the Gold Coast. In your third year, you may choose to complete a rural or international clinical placement.

You’ll participate in contemporary clinical placements and clinical tutorials supported by practice lecturers where you’ll have the opportunity to apply the skills taught and practiced in the clinical learning labs when working under the supervision of registered midwives.

You’ll follow 20 women throughout their pregnancy, birth and the six week period after birth. You’ll be required to be on call to attend the labour and birth.

Your clinical experience will be gained across a variety of settings and hospital services. You’ll be allocated to one main hospital or a private midwifery practice, where you’ll undertake 2–3 shifts per week across the 24-hour time span that women access care from midwives.

You’ll graduate with a solid foundation of midwifery’s theoretical knowledge and practical applications.
