Your first step towards a rewarding career in dentistry

Good dental health is vital for everyone, making dentistry a primary health care profession. In choosing a career in dental science, you'll be prepared to make a difference in many lives. Bachelor degrees in Dental Science, Dental Technology and Dental Hygiene at Griffith are your stepping stone towards a career in dentistry and oral health.

From Year 1 of your studies, you'll be undertaking rigorous hands-on training, working alongside registered dentists and dental specialists in various workplace settings—including our modern dental clinic and specialised laboratories in the Griffith Health Centre, or our network of clinics in regional areas.

Priority access for rural students

Be part of the next generation of healthcare professionals who understand the issues facing rural communities. Commonwealth supported places (CSPs) are set aside for rural students in medicine and dentistry.

Study with Australia's No.2* ranked university for Dentistry and oral health

The future of dentistry is here

The $150 million purpose-built Griffith Health Centre on our Gold Coast campus provides world-class facilities including a 96-chair dental clinic, commercial dental and clinical skills laboratories, high-level IT facilities, and research facilities.

Studying at Griffith, you’ll acquire the knowledge that underpins dental practice and get essential practical experience. You’ll graduate with superior skills and confidence, gained from working closely with qualified oral health professionals in our modern dental clinic and commercial laboratory.

Dental Technology and Dental Prosthetics - more dental degrees leading to a great future

Griffith’s innovative Bachelor of Dental Technology was the first new dental degree developed in Australia in over 60 years.

Dental technicians know how to combine their art and science skills to create custom-made dental devices such as dentures, crowns and bridges, and orthodontic appliances to enable people to use their teeth properly. As an important member of a larger team, you'll learn how to work collaboratively with dentists and specialists.

A double degree in Dental Technology and Dental Prosthetics combines technical and clinical skills to work directly with patients to diagnose, design, manufacture and fit removable dentures. Studying two degrees (Bachelor of Dental Technology and Bachelor of Dental Prosthetics) over four years leads to more opportunities for specialisation.

The Bachelor of Dental Prosthetics shares the first two years with the Bachelor of Dental Technology and has a clinical final year.

Bachelor of Dental Hygiene

This degree will prepare you for a career as a dental hygienist, working as a dental practitioner with a focus on patient care and education in the prevention of dental diseases. In this three year degree you'll gain valuable hands-on-practical experience working alongside dentists, dental prosthetists and dental specialists in Griffith's state of the art health facilities and clinics.

Michael Baker

Griffith Dentistry and Oral Health Graduate

Dentistry graduate Michael Baker performed many hours of clinical experience in the Indigenous community of Cherbourg in central Queensland during his degree. The program is delivered in partnership with Barambah Regional Medical Health service, which provides facilities and accommodation for the students. 'We took portable dental chairs with us and converted their nursing rooms into four dental surgeries,' he said. For Michael, the placement was about more than education. `For me, it's something I can give back to the community and I absolutely loved it.'
