Educating aviators for over 25 years
Over the past 25 years Griffith has built an international reputation for graduates that are industry ready through our innovative approach to aviation education. You'll be equipped with the skills needed for lifelong learning in the evolving aviation environment, and introduced to the sciences underpinning the theory and practice of aviation. You'll also study courses in areas such as aviation management, navigation and planning.
Study aviation at Griffith
Australia's most highly recognised Aviation program
Griffith works closely with industry to develop degrees to meet the needs of business now and into the future. We have strong links with the major airlines and are world leaders in aviation research. Our Aviation Industry Advisory board ensures that our degrees include knowledge and skills that are up-to-date and in-demand by industry.
Our Bachelor of Aviation combined with our Graduate Diploma of Flight Management provides the qualifications and flight training required to become a commercial pilot. This is offered through our contracted flight training provider Basair, Australia's largest flying school. Our graduates go on to work for regional, national and international carriers.
Double degree options
You can choose to combine your aviation degree with a Bachelor of Information Technology or a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours). With an aviation double degree, you'll graduate with two clear career pathways and a unique skill set that will set you apart in the aviation industry.
Connections with industry
Build your professional network with our Mentoring Aviators Through Educational Support (MATES) program. MATES is open to our undergraduate aviation students, providing professional development and peer mentoring opportunities in a social environment. You'll hear from guest speakers across various aviation professions and gain practical insights
Qantas group pilot academy
In partnership with the Qantas Group Pilot Academy and Griffith University, aviation students have a preferential pathway to complete their practical aviation training at the Academy.
The Qantas Group Pilot Academy is committed to providing a high standard of training delivered in an inclusive and supportive environment. The goal of the academy is to produce industry-ready pilots with a strong focus on safety. Training is facilitated by Flight Training Adelaide (FTA) with support from the Qantas Group to provide an outstanding student experience.
Over 52 weeks a student will complete their Commercial Pilot Licence, Multi-engine Instrument Rating, ATPL theory subjects and Multi-Crew Cooperation (MCC) course to complement their Griffith University aviation degree.
Graduate Diploma of Flight Management
Qantas Link Assistant Flight Training Manager, Captain Danica Henderson, says the dynamic, career-focused and supportive nature of her Griffith degree helped ensure her success. 'The fast-paced nature of the degree at Griffith helped prepare me for a dynamic career and has helped ensure my success thus far,' she says.
The Bachelor of Aviation together with the Graduate Diploma of Flight Management will allow graduates to be ready to work in the aviation industry as a commercial pilot. Graduates of these programs will find employment opportunities in charter work, regional airlines, flight instruction (theory and practical), aerial services (agricultural spraying, aerial surveying and photography), management, research and human resource management, and in government organisations such as Civil Aviation Safety Authority and the Australian Defence Force (in first officer positions)
