Access a range of welfare services

Our Welfare and Student Liaison Officers are here to help you with a range of welfare concerns, including Centrelink payments and tenancy issues.

We also have a carer support network.

Renting assistance

Many students relocate to study at Griffith.  This can be a daunting experience, especially if you are away from home for the first time, but even long-term renters can experience problems with their tenancies.

Support and information

Our Welfare Officers can help with:

  • information about your rights and responsibilities as a tenant
  • support to resolve tenancy problems or disputes
  • referrals to relevant service providers in the community
  • support for addressing issues surrounding homelessness
  • exploring options for temporary emergency accommodation if you are experiencing a crisis.

Rent Smarter videos

A series of videos we developed specifically for students - presenting possible real-life renting scenarios, along with some great tips.

Carer Support Network

Carers are people who provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness, an alcohol or other drug issue, or who are frail aged (Carers Australia).

Carer support

Caring for someone with additional support needs can be rewarding, but also extremely demanding, and it can be particularly challenging to balance the role of carer with the requirements of study.

We provide a Carers Support Network, including relevant update emails (if you wish to receive them), and also individual support.

Please contact us if you would like to join the carer network or just want to tell us about your needs.

Check out whether you are eligible for a carer payment through the Department of Human Services or a bursary for young carers.

You might also be interested in keeping abreast of the latest news and events from Carers Queensland.

The Counselling and Wellbeing website also has a great range of online resources aimed at improving well-being and coping with university pressure.

Come and talk to us if you need extra support or assistance.

Carer Welcome Sessions

Our Carer Welcome Orientation sessions are a great opportunity to meet with other student carers and find out about supports available within Griffith and externally. We also have a Carer Welcome Pack for you.

If you can't make it, feel free to contact us for more information or to make an appointment.

New and existing carers are welcome. Trimester 1 sessions have now been run, but further sessions will be advertised below as relevant in future trimesters.
