Uni Mental Health and Wellbeing Week 10-14 September 2018

Uni Mental Health and Wellbeing Week includes a program of engaging and inspiring activities, helping to raise awareness of the mental health and wellbeing of those who study and work at Griffith.

The concept was first developed by the University Mental Health Advisors Network in the UK, and now has more than 30 Australian and New Zealand universities participating.

All staff and students are encouraged to participate in Uni Mental Health and Wellbeing week activities to increase awareness, understanding and confidence.

Mental Health First Aid course

Mental Health First Aid is the help provided to someone with a mental health problem before they get professional help, or until the crisis resolves. This two-day course is offered to staff and students, and covers:

  • providing appropriate support to someone in the early stages of a mental health issue
  • recognising the signs and symptoms of mental health issues
  • knowing where to get help and how to refer.

Mental Health First Aid for the Suicidal Person

We offer Mental Health First Aid for the Suicidal Person courses, which can teach you how to give first aid to someone who is suicidal. These four-hour courses complement the Mental Health First Aid training are open to all Griffith students who'd like to attend.

Success and wellbeing workshops

We tailor workshops for staff to suit students’ interests. Workshops can be run:

  • before, during or after lectures
  • during your orientation activities
  • as part of mentoring and leadership programs
  • before or during placement, field trip and internship activities.

Topics include:

  • stress management and self-care
  • building resilience
  • managing exam anxiety
  • mental health and wellbeing
  • mindfulness.
